• Our client has a requirement for Senior Application Developer for a permanent opportunity. The position is located in Ottawa.
• This is a unique opportunity to join a startup that's passed validation and now entering a growth phase. We're seeking a Ruby on Rails developer who's up for the challenge of leading new product development in the growing healthcare IT field.
• Our client is in the business of delivering patient self-service technology to meet the healthcare sector's growing need for efficiency and scale.

Background

 

We have developed an extendible platform that has several attractive features:

• Graphical flow editor for run-time visual creation of arbitrary workflows
• Bi-directional interfaces to legacy hospital systems
• Stability from extensive testing
• Ease of deployment to customer sites

The software is built using the following technology mix:

• Ruby on Rails running in a J2EE container
• Linux distro tailored for kiosk use
• jQuery plus HTML and CSS
• SVG

Our process features (a) agile / Scrum, (b) extensive testing at developer and integration level, and (c) code review. As a small company we're still working at improving our overall development process.

The Applications

• Kiosk - interactive touchscreen kiosks that allow patients to check themselves in and update their information
• PreRegistration - secure online process to allow patients to register for their healthcare visit prior to their appointment
• Alert - real-time notification based on events occurring within a hospital or clinic
• Wayfinding - a touchscreen interface to view maps and routes through large healthcare organizations

 

Immediately On Deck For Dvelopment

• Scheduling Portal - a secure way for patients to view, modify and book scheduled appointments
• Requisition System - a secure mechanism to track and manage booking requests for services such as MRI or ultrasound

Requirements and Qualifications

• Experience deploying to live systems and real practical experience with some/all of the following:
• Ruby on Rails (or other scripting language like Python)
• MS SQL and/or MySQL
• J2EE (i.e. Glassfish)
• Linux : building packages, configuring hardware, administration and scripting
• jQuery, HTML and CSS
• Windows automation (i.e. AutoIT)
• Terminal protocols (i.e. VT100 and TN3270)
• Best development practices including Git, testing and source code review

• Friendly, good fun with an incredibly positive and driven personality
  • Skiers and snowboarders get bonus points
• Great communication and writing skills
• Comfortable with new challenges
• Understands the Unix philosophy and applies it every day
• Writes tests for code goes without saying
• Belief in what we're doing and has the "get things done" work ethic to turn that into reality
• This is a Mid-Senior level position but we're relaxed about years of experience as long as you have a proven passion for creating awesome products.
