Job Description
Our client has a requirement for a Software Quality Specialist for a 6 month contract opportunity. The position is located in Toronto.

Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, the Solution Quality Specialist will be required to have broad technical and project delivery experience in order to appropriately implement quality standards within DAS and represent these to the broader Wealth Delivery organization. This position will be required to influence Senior Managers within DAS as well as technical leads on the team. They will represent Design & Quality effort to project managers and executives, reporting into executive Delivery Review Boards as required. They will also present the team mandate to other parts of the Delivery organization as the team further integrates into the Wealth Delivery Model. The role will be required to analyse and provide opinion on vendor engagements and deliverables.
  • Involved in vendor engagement, for example input into and review of SOW, RFP
  • Communicate the clients technology requirements to vendor technical audience and ensure technology deliverables meet these
  • Attend due diligence, technology discovery sessions to qualify proposed solutions, in particular with vendors
  • Regular communication to Wealth Delivery Executives outside of the Development and Application Services team for the purposes of project status reporting, articulating effort related to quality and articulating technology risks
  • Presentation of the Design & Quality mandate to the wider Delivery organization as required
  • Facilitation skills required to represent Design & Quality at Delivery alignment sessions with project and vendor teams
  • Identify material technology quality risks and raise to Sr. Manager as well as project
  • Ability to effectively resolve issues and conflicts on project teams as they relate to Design & Quality effort
  • Prime back-up to the Senior Manager, Design and Quality.
  • Be able to speak to and report on each individual engagement as it relates to delivery quality
  • Act as a point of escalation into the Design & Quality group for the project team
  • Be able to negotiate with project team members, including technically focused as well as project and business focused individuals.
  • Technically proficient and able to dive into system design and application code to validate quality of work.
  • Assist in creating and implementing development standards, guidelines and tooling.
  • Assist in developing statistics and metrics to track quality of delivery and report these to stakeholders.
  • Continually build consensus in the Delivery organization for quality processes
  • Ability to think of delivery quality both tactically and strategically and identify specific, measureable ways to continually improve at the project and portfolio levels.
  • This role is expected to work extensively with the broader Wealth Delivery organization including senior levels of the project and portfolio teams. As such, proven communication and presentation skills are required.
  • This is a new role & team, therefore specific accountabilities should be expected to evolve. This flexibility should be a characteristic of the applicant. Contributing to the build up of this role and the Design & Quality team will be an important initial responsibility of the applicant.
 
Requirements
  • Broad technical expertise in designing and developing code as well as project methodologies to be able to provide opinion and direction to technical and non-technical project team members
  • Extensive experience in development languages and platforms such as java, .net and/or host/mainframe.
  • Experience writing and reviewing SDLC documentation such as System Requirements Specs and Design Specs.
  • Ability to understand project plans, dependencies across multiple deliverables and work packages, and identify areas of technology delivery risk.
  • Strong ability to initiate and build working relationships with members across the Wealth delivery team.
  • Proven ability to influence project team members and stakeholders.
  • Vendor Management experience
  • Developer knowledge experience with Java - ability to code review as required
  • Ability to enhance/create development standards
  • Be available to review current practice and standards and be able to provide quality oversight
