Role
eCommerce is a new group, working on its first launch for later this year. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the founding technical team for eCommerce at Canada’s largest retailer. You will work with a team of professionals that have been brought together to revamp and redefine the eCommerce landscape in Canada. The team includes prior start-up founders from Silicon Valley, members whose prior work includes a mobile app that was named one of top ten iPhone app's by Time Magazine and websites from top 100 sites as well as colleagues with significant retail experience. As a key member of the team, you will make significant impact and be instrumental in the designing, building and launching an e-commerce business that will touch Canadians coast to coast. You will operate in an independent, entrepreneurial, fast-paced, driven, and start-up environment with the support and resources of one of the best brands in retail. You will report to the eCommerce Technology Lead and will play a leading role in designing and building the future of eCommerce in Canada. This is a hands-on role in the eCommerce Development Team where you will design and develop the front-end of a multi-channel eCommerce platform based on hybris.
Requirements
User Interaction and Interface Design
- Craft interactive experiences; produce workflow diagrams, user scenarios, flowcharts, and storyboards; prepare interaction specifications, graphical mock-ups, navigation rules, organization of information, and site maps.
- Identify user requirements by researching and analyzing user needs, preferences, objectives, and working methods.
- Responsive Design for a variety of platforms including smartphone’s, tablets, and desktop web browsers.
- Create documentation artifacts that explain User Interaction decisions.
- Collaborate with business users, other designers and developers to envision new features and extend current features into the future.
- Create wireframes, mockups for new features and enhancement of existing features relating to the front-end of the web and mobile applications of the e-Commerce group
Front-end Development
- Develop JavaScript using standard Frameworks (jQuery, backbone.js, node.js, etc.).
- Front-end development using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), HTML, Javascript and Spring framework.
- Implement complex Ajax framework to facilitate data exchange between the browser and the server.
- Define and parse valid data interchange structures such as XML and JSON to integrate with back end services such REST based web services.
- Work around development basics like browser security issues, iframe to iframe communication, https requests.
- Follow industry best practices for front-end development.
- Extensive unit testing.
- Debug and fix defects.
- Conduct code reviews.
- Profile the front-end of the e-Commerce application to identify performance bottlenecks.
- Debug and refactor code as needed to improve performance bottlenecks.
Technology Leadership
- Lead front-end engineering decisions on the e-Commerce platform
- Mentor and coach junior team members
- Review and provide feedback on peers and other team members’ software code.
- Work with Loblaw IT teams to design and architect integration solutions
- User Interaction experience in creation of wireframes using tools such as Balsamiq, OmniGraffle etc.
- Web and graphic design experience using tools such as Adobe Photoshop.
- Frontend/Web development experience with JSP, JavaScript, JSON, jQuery, HTML, CSS.
- Experience with web app servers, such as JBoss, Websphere, and Weblogic.
- Experience using standard development tools, such as Eclipse, Ant, Git, PivotalTracker.
- Experience developing SOAP and/or REST based web services.
- Strong understanding of XML and how to manipulate using document based and stream based API’s.

- Heavy on front end development, JavaScript – less focus on Database, with more on Java
