Our client has a requirement for a Business Facing PM role for 6 months contract. The position is located in Toronto.

Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Project Management Services, the Project Manager’s key directive is to ensure successful delivery of projects on behalf of IT to the business.  Success is defined as delivering a quality project to meet business objective, creating a sustainable solution, on time, on budget and delivering the scope defined.  The Project Manager works closely with the Project Director and/or Portfolio Domain Director, project team and the Business to ensure that the project is delivered in a manner that achieves the business objectives, while following proper project methodology and that the solution implemented is supportable and sustainable by our operations team.

A project can be small (a few months) to large (spanning over several years) and requires an investment of capital budget.  Project budgets typically range from $500K - $5M.

The Project Manager is accountable for planning and managing one or more delivery projects. The PM plans the project staffing and timelines, liaises with the resource managers for staffing assignment, manages the team in the delivery of tasks, manages the identification and mitigation of risk, communicates effectively with stakeholders, manages vendors, manages the project scope/budget/schedule, complies with formal Project Delivery Methodology and ensures project success.  The Project Manager will leverage the client’s Expertise Centres.

The project profiles are varied and include Infrastructure, Application, Transformational, and Foundational.

Responsibilities
  • Completes the business case and cost/benefit analysis for projects,
  • Oversees the analysis of business requirements,
  • Accountable for ensuring overall project plans and estimates are achieved,
  • Provides project planning activities,
  • Works with project management offices to keep the user community and key stakeholders informed of project status, risks and issues identification and mitigations.
  • Provides leadership for project team during all phases.
  • Prepares for engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures
  • Complies with Change Management protocols
  • Accountable identify risks and minimize client's exposure through mitigating actions
  • Prepares project plans including gathering of time estimates and cost estimates
  • Works with user staff and other IT groups as required to ensure the project is successfully delivered
  • Manages tasks with project team members
  • Manages and monitors project financials
  • Facilitates timely and effective meetings
  • Keeps entire project team (including stakeholders) well informed of changes within the organization
  • Effectively communicates relevant project information to superiors
  • Delivers engaging, informative, well-organize presentations
  • Resolves and/or escalates issues in a timely fashion
  • Understands how to communicate difficult / sensitive information tactfully to all stakeholders

Skills, Knowledge & Education

This position requires an advanced level of initiative and judgment in order to organize and prioritize tasks, workload and projects. Courtesy, tact and diplomacy are required in dealing with clients and colleagues in day to day working relationships.
  • Post secondary education equivalent to a university diploma in Computer Science, Business or equivalent
  • Knowledge of project delivery methodologies
  • 5+ years experience in the delivery of diverse, complex IT and/ or Business projects (either infrastructure or application)
  • PMP designation or equivalent is preferred
  • Experience in Business-facing PM
  • Finely honed stakeholder management skills, specifically dealing with difficult, diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work with minimal direction
  • HR system experience (Workday would be great, but any HR system would help)
  • Learning Management/Training System experience
  • Successfully proven use of formal methodology and project tracking tools, forecasting, planning, financial controls, budgeting, risks management, issue management and organizational change management techniques
  • Proven ability to effectively leverage a project sponsor and Business owner to get him/her to help the PM through difficult messaging, issues or risks
  • Historically has been successful at objectively presenting alternatives, consequences, and recommendations.  Has driven a rational decision based on alternatives.
  • Has experience working in a matrix environment with co-located and virtual teams
  • Understanding of out-sourced and off-shore operations (how they work and how to work effectively with them).
  • A track record of building strong and maintaining trusted relationships with internal and external partners, team members, and vendors
  • Has gathered information and documented business cases that have successfully translated into projects and business impact
  • Business acumen and political savvy – the ability to work as part of a Team (spanning Business clients, IT Services and support and Vendors) to achieve tangible results.
  • Conflict management - requires specialized interpersonal skills to resolve situations with colleagues where there may be some level of conflict, stress or uncertainty.
  • Accountable to ensure solutions are proposed by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required leveraging the Centres of Expertise.
  • Adaptable to set and prioritize work with multiple exceptions.  Able to work with diverse personalities and styles.
  • Communication skills – Advanced skills with clarity and accuracy for presentations, meetings, conference calls or email correspondence, either in a group setting or one on one.
