Job Description

Our client has a requirement for an Access DBA for a temporary two week contract opportunity. The position is located in Guelph.

Role

The ideal candidate will assist our Client with optimizing their MS Access databases. The candidate would go on-site to review and analyze the client's current use of MS Access, particularly with regards to database design and performance, recommending and making changes that would benefit the client.

Please note that this opportunity would be on a part-time basis only, on call with 24 hour notice prior to either going on-site or connecting up remotely.

Requirements or Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in database administration, database development, optimization and general troubleshooting in a complex Windows environment.
• Writes complex SQL queries to aid troubleshooting, find and fix data issues, and to support other customer requests.
• Works with customers on troubleshooting production issues within the customer’s database.
• Performs optimization on production databases insuring high levels of performance.
• Works with development, performance, and implementation DBAs' on projects related to enterprise data and systems.
• Install, maintain, and secure new versions RDBMS software, applications, and associated software.
• Deploy new databases and associated software insuring security, availability and recoverability.
• Create, monitor and secure backup plans that align with business needs
• Deploy, configure, and monitor hardware and perform troubleshooting.
• Consults with PM/BAs', developers, and network/server team members in enterprise capacity planning.
• Windows Server 2003 or 2008 experience
• Knowledge and experience with VMWare, IIS (6, 7, 7.5), MS SQL Server (2000, 2005, 2008).
• Basic understanding of MS security models
• Experience with Windows PowerShell, Windows batch scripting, and other scripting languages
• Able to work independently—disciplined and self-directed to get the work finished with minimal supervision
• Strong communication, both oral and written, skills as well as highly developed interpersonal skills.
