Our client has a requirement for an Accountant – Accounts Receivable for a Permanent opportunity. The position is located in Mississauga, ON.

Role
The Accountant, Accounts Receivable, is accountable to the Supervisor, Accounts Receivable, for ensuring the timely and accurate collection/recording of rents and other revenue as well as various types of fees for the assigned portfolio of properties in a given geographical region.
 
Responsibilities
  • Accounts Receivable and Collection
    • Monitors all tenant accounts and initiates collection activities to ensure that rents are paid on a timely basis; maintains various tenant deposits, while following through with extended collection activities on outstanding accounts.
  • DEFT
    • Encourage tenants to set up for DEFT/EFT programs and ensure the DEFT master file is updated, as required, and manage to tenant documentation relating to the DEFT.
  • Bank Deposits and Cash Receipts
    • Ensures all payments and accounts receivable information is recorded on a daily basis, while reviewing/reconciling various deposits and free rent entries; ensures the accounts receivable recording is verified and completed properly and application of various deposits to tenant accounts is accurate.
  • Adjustments to Tenant Accounts
    • Reviews and prepares necessary rental adjustments as they relate to files received from the lease administration/information integrity functions, including tenant rental notices/invoices, recognitions of free rent, and recording of rental deposits to ensure proper rents and fees are received, recorded and accounted for in a timely fashion; prepares miscellaneous accounts receivable billings for utilities, charge back invoicing, and refunds to ensure accuracy and adherence to company’s policies and procedures.
  • Straight Line Accruals
    • Assists with the timely preparation of quarterly and annual balancing of Step-up Rents Accruals (FASB) and Security Deposits to ensure reporting requirements are accurate, complete and in accordance with GAAP and company’s policies and procedures.
  • Percent Rent Billing and Reporting
    • Prepares and completes the percentage rent report process and sales overage billing for sites, where required, to ensure accurate billing and receipt of percentage rent revenue.
  • Accounts Receivable Analysis and Reporting
    • Analyzes miscellaneous revenue accounts on a monthly basis and reports to management on the status of accounts receivables and any outstanding accounts, while assisting with the preparation of financial solutions for non-remitting tenants in order to ensure receipt of payments.
  • Collection Record Keeping
    • Maintains trust account documents for various properties, maintains filing system of all documents related to the collection of account receivable such as invoices, deposits, and rent rolls in order to facilitate periodic review and audit processes.
  • Other Accounts Receivable Duties
    • Assists with a variety of accounting tasks including site sale reporting, gross cap tenant calculations etc. to ensure such processes are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
 
 Requirements or Qualifications:
  • College Diploma in Accounting or Business Administration or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Previous experience in real estate industry is an asset
  • Previous collections experience is an asset.
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards or comparable property management platform is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good quantitative analysis skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
