Job Description
Our client has a requirement for a PHP/Joomla Developer for a 4 month contract opportunity. The positions are located in North York.

Role
The PHP/Joomla Developer will be a member of the Online Development team in the Business Solution Delivery Department, participating in projects, responsible for application support and system improvements for web-based and multi-tier applications and other integration applications linking business partners and the Online system.
 
Responsibilities
This position is a hands-on role. The PHP/Joomla Developer must be a team player and have strong web application skills, good troubleshooting and self-starting qualities with minimal supervision. He/she will work with other team members to work on new projects and support back-end and middle-tier and other batch applications in large and complex, transaction-heavy environments.
Major responsibilities are summarized as follows:
  • Participate in the ongoing development of our client’s website and its related micro sites.
  • Set-up and maintain Joomla environment and/or other similar portal/CMS engines (such as WordPress).
  • Investigate high severity application defects reported by internal and external customers in production, identify the root cause of the issue, develop a solution and implement it as early as possible per business requirements.
  • Participate in optimization to achieve more scalable, reliable, secured, maintainable, extendable, and adaptable applications through effective refactoring, tuning and building solid and reusable frameworks.
  • Participate in architectural design and QA test strategy review. Make sure that the design is aligned with industry best practices, the solution is a balance of availability, reliability, reusability, maintainability, scalability, performance, security and extensibility, and that the test cases have good test coverage.
  • Must be willing and able to occasionally work outside of normal business hours when project deadlines or critical production issues call for it.

Requirements or Qualifications
  • Three to five years of relevant experience (PHP development and Joomla experience is a must.)
  • Experience with development technologies (PHP, MySQL), basic data parsing (JSON, XML, open APIs), and development of popular blog and CMS frameworks (WordPress, Joomla, etc.)
  • Produce clean, well-documented front-end code
  • Have advanced knowledge of standards-compliant front-end web development languages, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc
  • Advanced knowledge of AJAX and its application in dynamic user interfaces
  • Knowledge of image and rich media formats, their strengths, weaknesses, and usability across browsers and platforms
  • Advanced knowledge of JavaScript libraries, such as jQuery, and their employment to create dynamic user interfaces
  • Experience with Agile (SCRUM) methodology required
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic, faster learner, very reliable, and highly motivated
  • Good familiarity with current online trends including Social Media and mobile
  • University degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent work experience
