Job Description

Our client has a requirement for a Solutions Designer on a 6-month contract term.  The opportunity is located in Mississauga.

Preferably from Cards Industry: The Credit Cards Team is seeking a mainframe Solution Designer with strong technical skills and COBOL/IMS/DB2 experience.

Prime responsibilities

• Design, review, and integrate all application requirements and support the build phase to ensure adherence to the development and shared service software architecture.

Key accountabilities:

• Provide technical leadership during the life of a project / initiative
• Consult on development of the System Requirements Specification (SRS)
• Overall accountability for the delivery of the System Design Specification (SDS) and responsible for developing the Component Design section of the SDS
• Define development specifications and identify system modifications required to meet performance objectives
• Identify and address application and data issues and cross-capability and cross-release issues that affect application integrity
• Advise and provide expert knowledge on the technical feasibility of the proposed deliverables
• Work with Developers to ensure that the detailed technical design is fully understood and the development initiatives are in line with the intended design
• Provide effort estimates for new projects and initiatives
• Ensure SDLC gating criteria are met
• Provide input into Application Deployment Plan
• Deliver effective and efficient solutions by meeting key project milestones and ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget, and adhere to the corporate quality and security standards
• Act as an expert resource providing insight and recommendations based on industry and technology trends, system strategy and design

Requirements or Qualifications:

• 5+ years of software/application design and development experience
• In depth knowledge of mainframe technologies including tools to trouble-shoot technical problems
• Ability to support a range of projects varying in size, complexity and scope
• Possess a broad technical understanding of entire LOB’s applications, technologies, and processes
• Strong knowledge and experience in the use of SDLC methodologies
• Ability to act as a lead technical development expert and subject matter expert for a business application or a specific technology
• Ability to code, debug, research, analyze and problem-solve development issues
• Highly organized, self-motivated, customer oriented and be able to work independently as well as within a team and with internal business and technology partners at all levels of the organization

The Manager is looking for someone who has experience on “Design” with mainframe and NOT A DEVELOPER. Someone who can interpret business requirements and system requirements and create design documents.
