Job Description

Our client has a requirement for a Sr QA for a 12 month contract opportunity.  The position is located in Winnipeg, MB.

Role

• This person would work closely with a Senior QA Analyst (staff member) who will oversee the work completed by the new team member.
• The project team is focused on the implementation of a vendor product, along with the build/implementation of custom applications to support the integration of the packaged product into the environment.
• There is a great deal of manual functional testing that will take place (along with the planning, organizing and execution that goes with that), and I expect the practitioner to participate in the execution of manual test cases.
• I am looking for a strong, hands-on, QA practitioner who has experience in functional application delivery and manual functional testing.
• The person will take on some level of test planning and test execution for one of the “delivery streams” for the project. They will work closely with business partners to participate in and support their testing as well. 

Responsibilities

• Participates early in the project lifecycle, working closely with Systems Architects, Systems Analysts and Technology Specialists to review project functional requirements (as elicited by project Systems Analysts)
• Assesses requirements to produce Test Strategy and Plan
• Assesses project team needs regarding test environment utilization, working with various technical resources to ensure that the Test Plan can be executed on successfully within the development environment; is a liaison with other operational groups within the enterprise to ensure that project test environment needs have been met
• Manages execution of the team’s formal Test Plan; is responsible for all defect tracking (via Clear Quest) and closure of defects (working in conjunction with technical resources who will troubleshoot and make changes to work products to ensure defect resolution)
• Responsible for all status reporting (to Senior QA Test Lead) as it relates to the testing efforts of the team
• The QA Test Coordinator is expected to produce Application Delivery Methodology  deliverables (they  may be asked to produce some, or all of the deliverables noted below)

• The QA Test Coordinator will participate in the execution of manual functional test cases (prior to or during user acceptance testing)

Qualifications

Experience participating in the delivery of IT solutionsas a QA practitioner 7+ years of overall hands-on IT delivery experience in one or more IT disciplines (4+ of these years must be in a QA focused delivery role; remaining years of experience can be in another discipline) Knowledge of and experience leveraging tools as enablers to the completion of the overall IT testing effort Defect tracking tools: Use of tools such as Rational Clearquest to support the management of the defect tracking process Knowledge of and experience applying QA principles (such as the concept of risk based testing etc.) on application delivery projects Experience leading the effort to develop formal test strategies, test plans (related to functional application testing) and formal approaches to addressing the overall test execution needs of an IT project team Experience producing testing deliverables as per a structured software development lifecycle methodology (deliverables such as test strategy, functional test plan, system test problem report, test summary report) Strong written communication skills and ability to produce deliverables that are consumed by both technical / non-technical audiences Ability to plan and organize work independently, and plan/organize work for others (little “p” project management skills – ability to multi-task, plan and organize, coordinate work activity for other team members) Ability to complete work package planning as it relates to testing deliverables; strong estimating / planning skills (ability to estimate/re-estimate task completion, ability to multi-task and re-prioritize tasks) Experience overseeing the actual execution of IT project team test plans (management of the defect tracking process, assessment of defects logged to assess validity) Ability to work in a highly complex environment (from a project, technology and test environment perspective) Strong initiative; must be a self-start and have the ability to quickly learn how to navigate in a large multi-company organization
