Senior UNIX Systems Administrator

Job Description

Our client has a requirement for a Senior UNIX Systems Administrator for a six month contract opportunity. The position is located in downtown Toronto.


Role:

Currently we are looking for a hungry and highly enthusiastic and hungry Senior UNIX Systems Administrator for our prime downtown location- this is a 6 month contract with possibility of extension. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring and resolving incidents related to infrastructure systems and applications Initiate corrective actions to resolve system and infrastructure application errors. Log and document production problems, identify recurring problems and recommend preventative measures. Answer calls from application support groups or systems engineers, identify problems, resolve or escalate as required. Interact with systems programmers, server, database and network support staff to maintain responsive and available infrastructure for the application.

This is project related work, and the incumbent will be responsible for design/configuring and implementing of hardware and O/S design for wholesale applications. Ideally we are looking for strong O/S fundamental background with good 2-3 years of clustering experience from an enterprise level environment.

This group is dynamic, passionate and has very little attrition-we are looking for a strong team player with a "can-do" attitude.


Requirement or Qualifications:

Qualified Candidates will have:

•Comprehensive knowledge of UNIX systems management, servers, AIX/Linux (exposure to multiple UNIX base operating systems an asset)
•Minimum of 6 years, hands-on experience in design and build of Linux (SuSE Linux Enterprise Server) systems.
•Demonstrated experience with UNIX systems and support and diagnostic tools such as Openview or VERITAS
•Must be familiar with Unix Shell Scripting
•Hands on experience with common hardware server platforms for UNIX (x86/AMD based servers from IBM/HP, SUN hardware).
•Strong understanding and hands-on experience with High Availability
•Superior Troubleshooting skills, able to recommend out-of-the box solutions
•Must have a strong understanding and proven background with capacity planning and performance tuning
•Must have a strong familiarity with- knowledge of common mass storage platforms like SAN, NAS, and Disk Arrays etc.
•Manage security across the environment and be able to integrate standard security products like ESM, eTrust etc on the servers.
•In-depth VERITAS Volume Manager experience (Preferred)
•Project design and implementation experience rather than just support
