Java/J2EE Developer cum Oracle Administrator

Zylog Systems (Canada) Ltd. is currently seeking a Java/J2EE Developer with Oracle DBA knowledge. The primary responsibility of this role is to design, develop and support a Web based applications in Java technologies, also should have the capability to administrate an Oracle database. This includes the user interface, middleware and database access layers. The Java Developer may design, develop and/or re-engineer highly complex application components, and integrate software packages, programs and reusable objects residing in multiple platforms. Oracle administration skill set is mandatory for this position, since the part of this role should also maintain the production oracle database server which is hosted in a very legacy environment.

Key Skills and Attributes required

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science preferred
• 5 - 6 years previous experience in a software (Java/J2EE Technologies) developer role
• Demonstrated working experience of Core Java, Java-Script, Struts, EJB, Spring, TDD and Hibernate Framework in General Web and GUI application development using these Java technologies
• Experience with Unix environment.
• Demonstrated working experience of Eclipse and Netbean Tool
• Demonstrated working experience in SQL/PL-SQL in Oracle database
• Demonstrated working experience in Oracle admin
• Demonstrated working experience in CVS, ANT, Debugging & Test tools
• Previous experience documenting programming code and application specifications would be a significant asset
• Strong relationship development skills and ability to work effectively in a team/ collaborative environment
• Experience in working with Off-shore development team
• Excellent oral communication skills
• Effective consultation skills to identify clear statements of customer requirements and the related development effort required
• Sound time management skills with the ability to prioritize and with project-focused discipline

• Monitor and maintain the DB server and instances for all environments (Production, QA/REF, DEV, and Disaster Recovery).
• Monitor and maintain the routine business cron jobs setup on the DB instances of various types, adjust them according to their usage.
• Routinely refreshing non-production DB instances with Production DB data.
• Sound knowledge of database auditing, audit logging, creating benchmark for audit points
• Experience with database security and database encryption
• Sound knowledge of users access and database privileges
• Experience with deploying database security patches and remediation of database vulnerabilities.
• Experience with the building, configuring, monitoring, and implementation of Oracle DataGuard technology.
• Strong RMAN backup/recovery experience on very large databases
• Strong skills in writing stored procedures/functions
• Hands-on experience with Oracle performance analysis using Statspack, SQL tracing, etc.
• Expert experience in troubleshooting and resolving urgent/critical incidents on production systems
• Experience with performing back-up and recovery for both application tablespaces and catalogue table spaces
• Programming experience in building and parsing the XML files
• Experience with UNIX shell scripting
• Participate in the Design and Development of enhancement/customization requests.  Work with the Business Analyst and Developers to understand the new features. Work out the required DB changes including table changes, trigger changes, stored procedure/function changes, DB cron job changes, and create/maintain reports in the MS reporting server, loading translated content into DB
