Job Description:

Our client has a requirement for Business Analyst for a 6 month contract opportunity. The position are located in Toronto.

Overview

Within Client’s IT, the Information Management Business Analyst leads and manages all project work related to business requirements and solution design throughout the life cycle of Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing Projects. This includes initial requirements elicitation, translating requirements to high level design and ensuring development, testing, and implementation activities align with requirements. During post-implementation, the Information Management Business Analyst verifies that requirements and business objectives have been met.

As the primary bridge between business and technology, the Information Management Business Analyst is the key facilitator in translating business requirements to the delivered solution. He/she understands the language and needs of both communities – forging a shared understanding of what is required on both sides and establishing a climate of cross-functional collaboration.

In partnership, the Information Management Business Analyst and Project Manager lead the work effort. While the Project Manager’s focus is timeline and cost constraints, the Information Management Business Analyst concentrates on solution quality and value. That is, ensuring that the final product satisfies business goals and functions as required.


Responsibilities

•Work with Project Manager/Project Sponsor to clarify the solution’s vision and project scope. The primary focus will be supporting Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehousing (DW) initiatives
•Identify project stakeholders for requirements elicitation and plan timing and deliverables of the work
•Elicit requirements using a variety of methods – workshops, interviews, storyboarding, process modeling etc.
•Prepare and deliver demos for business clients that will feature how data and information can be delivered through operational and analytical reporting solutions and tools.
•Document requirements specifications according to standard templates using simple, clear, concise language
•Define quality attributes, interfaces, constraints and other non-functional requirements
•Represent requirements using alternate views - analysis models (diagrams), use cases, prototypes as appropriate for the initiative.
•Investigate and analysis data sources to support the identification of required source files / tables to support BI/DW requirements.
•Support the Solution Architect in the defining the high level solution showing sources, targets and reporting objects
•Determine and document source to target transformation rules for BI/DW data integration
•Support the determination of BI reporting layouts and ad-hoc reporting requirements
•Lead, create and manage the high level design process, creating a high level design package for BI/DW solutions including both process and system solutions (including anticipated target data volumes, data integration high level job scheduling requirements and error handling functionality)
•Lead requirements analysis and verification, ensuring requirements are complete, concise traceable and testable
•Lead requirements prioritization effort with the business and technology groups
•Lead peer reviews and inspection of requirements documents
•Lead the technical analysis for current state and future state as well as impact analysis, interface analysis and system analysis.
•Manage requirements traceability and track requirements throughout project life cycle
•Support the business during User Acceptance Testing
•Manage requirements change through a formal change control process
•Establish best requirements practices with a focus on continuous improvement
•Establish means of reusing requirements and other analytical artefacts for concurrent or future projects
•Review detailed designs to ensure requirements are comprehensively accounted for
•Coach and guide other Business Analysts within Information Management


QUALIFICATIONS:

•University Degree or equivalent
•Minimum of 5 to 10 years experience in a BI/DW Business Analyst role in a project based environment
•3 to 5 years experience supporting IBM Cognos BI projects
•Experience with Cognos and Crystal reporting tools is an asset
•Superior ability to analyze data to understand data scenarios and identify transformation rules utilizing query tools
•Experience utilising querying tools to query various data sources and targets
•Business acumen in the supply chain, logistics, marketing and retail areas
•Fluent in technology and strong knowledge of software development methodologies/techniques
•Strong analysis, critical thinking and problem solving skills
•Superior communication skills - written and oral
•Superior facilitation/presentation skills to effectively lead requirements elicitation workshops
•Strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict-management skills
•Knowledge of Client environment and inter-related business units an asset
•Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects at the same time and under tight deadlines
•Ability to navigate ambiguity, overcome confusion and simplify complex situations
•Knowledge and interest in industry best practices regarding requirements definition and management
