Job Description

Our client has a requirement for Technical Systems Analyst- UNIX Specialist for a 6 month contract opportunity.  The position is located in North York

Role

Reporting to the IT Manager, Infrastructure Build, the Technical Analyst will be responsible for:
  • the planning, building and maintenance of IT infrastructure and project environments. 
  • provide hands on installation, configuration, design review, activity planning and perform technical tasks specific to the assigned projects.

Responsibilities
  • Perform technical execution on respective area of expertise (SUSE Linux) during build phase, as per design documents
  • UNIX administration (installation, configuration and monitoring)
  • Configure server operating system services, applications, networking
  • Create scripted software installations
    • Perform application installation and configuration as per vendor instructions
    • Create technical documentation as required – build documents, implementation plan, etc.
    • Review design documents, confirm feasibility, provide feedback
    • Troubleshoot functional and performance issues, work with QA and Design team to analyze and identify issues/problems and develop resolution plans.
    • Support QA teams during test phases, as required
    • Consult and support Delivery team and provide work effort estimates, project status, updates, risk, etc.
    • Provide Level 3 support production incidents, engage third party vendors and coordinate the middleware technical aspects incident resolution as needed
    • Initiate and control project related changes as per change management process, using Remedy system, provide the technical implementation plan for the infrastructure middleware installation, configuration and applications deployment
    • Organize and participate in the project hand-over to Operations teams
    • Prepare and present data for management reports
    • Research and evaluate external software and hardware tools.
    • Assist in the development of project plans along with establishing effort estimates for relevant Build activities on assigned projects.
    • Plan and perform UNIX environments maintenance

Requirement or Qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years of IT related experience.
  • Current hands-on technical expertise in an enterprise UNIX environment (SUSE Linux preferred)
  • Expertise in creating rpm packages and automated installation procedures
  • Shell scripting
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
  • Exposure in creating documentation – build book, operations manual, knowledge base
  • TCP/IP Networking concepts

Nice to have
  • AIX
  • Exposure to logical design and/or development environments
  • WMB, WMQ concepts, trobleshooting – highly preferred
  • SQL
  • Knowledge of SAN/NAS technology

Generic Skills
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills

 Working Environment
  • Office environment
  • Regular business hours (8 hours + 1 hour lunch), some after hours work may be required for production activities
  • 7x24 pager support on a rotation basis, as needed
