Job Description

Our client has a requirement for a Sr. Technical Specialist - Information Security for a 3 month contract opportunity.  The position is located in Toronto.

Role

The Senior Technology Specialist - Security will play a critical role in developing the information security and event management program and building maturity in security incident response. This temporary role requires SME leadership to evaluate existing security posture and monitoring operations in the IT production environment and develop existing security information and incident response capability. The focus will be on improving security information and event management. The candidate will be a part of the Information Security Operations team and work with various platform SMEs and our managed security service provider throughout the course of this engagement.


Major Responsibilities
  • Be a SME for security information and event management
  • Collect information on computing infrastructure and related security controls and profile the environment in terms of current state defense in depth features and performance
  • Assess adequacy of various patching practices and hygiene solutions in the context of the overall posture of the production environment
  • Review the existing logging and monitoring solution and provide recommendations to improve coverage and alerting utility
  • Recommend mitigating actions to increase protection of key information assets, improve security incident response and increase the value proposition of managed security services
  • Develop a computing infrastructure security diagnostics report and identify the necessary enhancements to the underlying monitoring and security information management solution
  • Identify proactive actions to reduce likelihood of security events and position the client for effective emergency response to security incidents
  • Review and provide recommendations for various security documents
  • Identify report content and participate in the development of operational security reports
  • Facilitate communications with stakeholder groups to understand process requirements
  • Assess existing practices and processes identifying gaps and developing remediation actions
  • Maintain plan and schedule and coordinate activities
  • Communicate plans, progress, issues and recommendations to management and the project team

Requirements or Qualifications
  • Team player, resolution focused, and customer service oriented.

  • Proven ability to communicate business and technical terminology and implications to IT staff and the organization.

  • IT Operations and Support process background and project experience an asset.
  • Experience implementing ITIL processes an asset.
  • Information security background and credentials (ie CISSP, CEH) an asset.
