Job Description

Our client has a requirement for Application Designer for a 14 months contract opportunity.  The positions are located in Toronto

Role

• Work with Development Lead / Application Architect to develop comprehensive
  design documentation
• Design and document the technical components to implement the business functions
• Perform system analysis, develop detailed designs and system specifications for custom applications, related databases and necessary interfaces
• Ensure the application components to align with the application architecture and meet
  various architecture quality goals
• Document technical requirements to comply with corporate I&T directions and
  industrial best practices
•  Advise and provide expert knowledge on the technical feasibility of the proposed
  deliverables
• Review and integrate all application requirements, including functional, security,
  performance, integration, and operations requirements
• Identify risks, issues and constraints associated with solutions and designs
• Identify and assist in the re-engineering, enhancement or replacement of business
  rules and associated technologies
• Ensure the delivered mission critical system is highly performing, secure, and
  scalable
• Implement and unit test the business rules and functions based on the design
• Participate in business requirement, documentation review and analysis
• Provide technical support during the various phases of testing, preparation for
  production implementation, and post-implementation support
• Contribute to the ongoing team development by sharing knowledge, information and
  lessons learned on a regular basis
• Coach, mentor and transition team members to maintenance groups

Requirement or Qualifications

Qualified Candidates will have:

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in designing and developing mission critical J2EE
  / Java EE applications and sub-systems/components
• Experience in application design using Design Patterns and UML modeling
• Solid background with Struts, Ajax, JSF, Spring, Hibernate, JPA, EJB3, Web
  Services, SOA
• Good understanding of software security and application performance best practices
• Self-motivated team player with high energy and ability to work independently as
  well as within a structured team environment
• Excellent communication, inter-personal, and problem solving skills
• BS in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline or equivalent experience

Technical Capabilities

• Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical designs
• Experience in design and coding using Java 5+ / Java EE 5+
• Strong knowledge and experience in JSF, JPA and EJB 3
• Solid background in IBM WebSphere and Rational development tools
• Experience in Oracle or DB2, SQL, PL/SQL, and Unix/Linux
