About the Job

Our client has a requirement for a Network Design Engineer for a 12 month  contract opportunity.  The position is located in Ottawa  

Work as part of the Client Network team that supports the network environment for their client across their 9 locations in Canada. Work location is onsite at their our customer location - the Ottawa.

Role

Provide day to day steady state hardware and software support to the client’s production network and network devices, including but not limited to Switches, Routers, Firewalls, VPN remote access infrastructure, DNS/DHCP and a comprehensive wireless access infrastructure. 

Responsibilities

•  Cisco router/switch product line support.
• Cisco ASA/VPN/proxy firewall product line support. 
• Manage the SWG Lab’s DHCP/DNS/DDNS services on AIX. 
• Maintain security of the network to be compliant with IBM security policies
• Provide 24x7 on-call support to production systems on rotation basis 
• Some after hour evening and weekend support is required to implement changes.
• Manual labor involved
• Day to day support regarding problem solutions, Project solutions, Moves/Adds/Changes Cisco product technical skills (Cisco certification would be an asset).
• Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP protocol (layer 2 and 3 in particular, OSPF & BGP routing protocols)
• Working knowledge of AIX, and Window Server Operating systems.
• Perl, Java, AIX scripting knowledge an asset.
• Extensive experience with IT change management processes
• Solid analytical skills for problem solving
• Experience in policy/process enforcement of security standards and guidelines
• Good communication and project coordination skills
• Ability to interface and communicate directly with the customer
• Ability to multitask and manage high volumes of work. 
• Ability to handle stressful situations
• Ability to maintain meticulous documentation
• Must be process oriented and pay attention to detail
• Logical thinker - self motivated and demonstrate initiative
• Must possess a customer service oriented attitude 
• Close team interaction / spirit
• Good PC Software and O/S skills - Visio skills This is a client facing position.
• Professionalism required.
