Manager, Human Resources (1 year contract)

Zylog Systems (Canada) Ltd. is currently seeking a Manager, Human Resources for a one year contract for a maternity leave replacement.  The Manager, Human Resources is responsible to manage the overall provision of Human Resources services for Zylog Systems (Canada) Ltd. and Zylog Systems (Ottawa) Ltd.  The Manager, Human Resources provides functional HR support to all levels of the organization and provides guidance and counsel to management in all Human Resources related issues including recruitment and selection, interpretation and administration of HR polices programs and application legislation, performance management, training and development, health and safety, benefits and compensation.  The Manager, Human Resources ensures delivery of Human Resources services promotes fair and equitable treatment of employees, complies with government legislations, and focuses on business objectives.  


Specific Responsibilities & Primary Duties:
  • Consult Managers and Employees on HR policy and employee relation issues and concerns (eg. attendance, employee discipline, poor performance, employee development)
  • Manage high-risk employee relation's matters to completion to minimize risk to the organization. This includes harassment, human rights, escalated employee relations issues, disciplinary action and termination. 
  • Manage Group Benefits program.
  • Liaise directly with Group Benefits Insurance carrier to manage employee claims for Short Term disability and Long term disability and assist in the re-integrating employees following disability.
  • Analyze and modify compensation and benefits policies to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements
  • Develop and implement compensation strategies and structures that align with company goals.
  • Partner with management and staffing team on recruitment and selection which includes defining Standards of Performance – Job Description, screening resumes, conducting behaviour-based interview, reference checks, work visa application, offer letters, and new employee orientation. 
  • Plans, develops, implements and administers HR policies and procedures that ensure consistent treatment of employees and are consistent with government legislations.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate HR programs and initiatives to meet business needs.
  • Consult manager and employee on health and safety programs and practices
  • Manage all WSIB claims including accident reporting and Early Return to Work program
  • Develop, implement and maintain health and safety programs to ensure compliance with legal requirement.
  • HR training that focuses on enhancing management/employees knowledge such as Employment Standard Act, Management and Employee responsibilities under Occupational Health and Safety At, and Harassment.
  • Develops and implements training and development initiatives to address current capabilities and future training needs, including on-the-job operational training, department special training, management development, new hire orientation and on boarding.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • College Diploma or University Degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration
  • CHRP designation
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Human Resources in a generalist role
  • Minimum 2 years of Management experience
  • Knowledge of current employment legislation (e.g. Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act,  and Pay and Employment Equity Legislation)
  • Knowledge of the staffing industry business and hiring cycle.
  • Ceridian Insync Blue and Crystal Report writer experience is required
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Outlook
  • Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Must have experience dealing with client, contractors, and senior management.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service at all levels of the organization and with external partners.
  • Possess strong organizational, time management and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Strong relationship-building ability, proactive, results-oriented, and resourceful.
  • Strong problem solving and leadership skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to recommend and implement process improvements
