Lead Functional Configurator, Transportation & Distribution

Position Purpose:
The Lead Functional Configurator (Transportation & Distribution) is responsible for understanding the client’s transportation and distribution network, understanding business requirements and performing program configuration/modification and set-up activities using specific HD process techniques. This position requires extensive knowledge of Manhattan TMS/WMS with a focus on how it needs to interface with other functional areas. This is a business-facing role that serves as a liaison between the business and Home Depot Information technology teams. This position will interface with various Information Technology, Functional, and Business teams to ensure that business requirements are properly configured within Manhattan. The Lead Functional Configurator provides expert technical direction to functional configurators and contractors, and updates the Manager, Project Manager, or Sr. Manager on day to day activities and status. No associates report to this role on a permanent basis, but requires the leadership of a work group: provide information necessary to meet work, project or program objectives; assign and review work; contribute to performance appraisals.


Position Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:
  • Gather detailed requirements from business users for approved large scale projects and small enhancements to existing projects.
  • Perform program configuration/modification and set-up activities on large projects using specific HD process techniques.
  • Coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with the Business Client. Provide System Requirement Documents (SRD) and Systems External Specifications (SES) documents to the UAT and System test groups, to assist with testing scenarios.
  • Coordinate training and rollout plans for new systems or enhancements to existing systems.
  • Provide expert technical direction to functional configurators and contractors.
  • Provide project leadership for multiple projects and activities.
  • Partner with the client's management, business groups (Transportation & Distribution), IT teams (Architecture, Infrastructure, Development) on best practices, design, and environment setup.
  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise in the areas of transportation and distribution.
  • Interface with Business Stakeholders, IT Infrastructure teams, Development teams to ensure that business requirements are properly configured within SAP.


Experience/Knowledge Requirements:
  • Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in math, engineering, or computer science.Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in math, engineering, or computer science.
  • Extensive knowledge of transportation and distribution.
  • Five or more years direct experience with Manhattan TMS/WMS, preferably in a retail environment.
  • Knowledge of SAP MM is an asset.
  • Proven ability to work creatively in a problem-solving environment with strong decision-making skills.
  • Ability to partner with various levels of the business (including stores and senior management) and IT.
  • Strong communication (both oral and written) skills.
  • Experience with structured project methodology.
  • Experience in the creation and maintenance of business requirements documents, statements of work, project plans, test plans, and other project-related documents.
  • Ability to be self-directing and work independently.
  • Ability to manage workload and report project status concisely.
  • Computer literacy with strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
