Job Description

Our client has a requirement for Senior Project Manager – Capital Markets for a perm opportunity. This position is located in downtown Toronto, Ontario.


Requirements or Qualifications

We are looking for a Senior Project Manager required to manage strategic initiatives within our department. This candidate needs to be comfortable working with the front office under firm timelines, managing vendor selection process, developing business case for implementation of new software and ultimately, implementing and integrating a third-party product.

The successful candidate will work closely with other internal and external Project Managers to deliver different components. This candidate may be required to travel to US on an ad-hoc basis (20%).


Key accountabilities are:

¡ Sets direction at an operational level, works autonomously in the management of the unit and collaborates with other business heads to establish and execute on common goals.
¡ Direct or manages large-scale applications, programs or projects across multiple product lines, involving significant scope and complexity.
¡ Ensures delivery of project to the business partner, meeting the approved scope/cost/schedule/quality for the project.
¡ Perform a governing role for, ensuring that the proposal, execution, control, deployment, training and hand off, warranty support, and closure meet promised schedules.
¡ Performs risk identification and mitigation activities, escalating unresolved issues to the Executive and / or Steering Committee where appropriate to secure their timely decisions/support.
¡ Manages the acquisition and deployment of resources, including budget, by working with the Project Managers to secure the resources required for the project.
¡ Ensures client satisfaction with the project process and project team by effective and timely communication including status reporting, continual risk/issue assessment/management and escalation, and resolution of issues as they arise.
¡ The successful candidate will be required to work with and influence senior level leaders and partner with other IT Managers.
¡ Manage a matrix team that consists of 10 – 50 people.


Qualified Candidates will have:

¡ Project management of initiatives within Wholesale Banking industry as well as experience in Treasury Credit and Counterparty Credit Risk is required.
¡ Proven leadership skills and experience managing large and complex IT projects.
¡ PMP designation (PMI certification)
¡ Experience leading others through formal PM and SDLC methodologies
¡ Experience with proven project methodology tools.
¡ Experience in analyzing and implementing appropriate governance and operational readiness matrices for projects
¡ Experience leading business implementations and change
¡ Experience with understanding various technologies
¡ Excellent influence skills and executive communication skills
¡ Must be able to maneuver and lead others in a complex, ambiguous environment
¡ Ability to drive the project milestones through internal and external vendors/resources
¡ Broad knowledge across different products and operational processes within Wholesale Banking/Capital Markets
¡ Exposure to Finance or Basel-related projects would be beneficial
