About the Job

Job Description

Our client has a requirement for a Senior Infrastructure Design Specialist – Network for a perm opportunity. The position is located in Calgary, Alberta Canada.


Role

The successful applicant will be part of a team responsible to provide, maintain, and evolve a cost effective, secure, and reliable design of end to end infrastructure aligned with the enterprise architectural standards, roadmaps, and operations requirements.

This individual will provide infrastructure solution design and technical expertise to IS and liaise with the Project Management Office, Architecture and Planning, Application Maintenance Support and Technical Systems Delivery to meet technical project delivery objectives and ensure existing and future infrastructure requirements and product lifecycle are sustainable.

To be successful, the applicant must be capable of providing proven infrastructure design, project and operational support by applying process, procedures, standards, guidelines, best practices, and experience.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

Infrastructure Design Service

•Participate and support all aspects of the project life cycle, from requirements analysis, to design, implementation support, and operational handoff
•Take a leadership position in the design of infrastructure solutions based on the requirements, architectural roadmap, and guiding principles. The key deliverables are the Solution Concept Manual (SCM), detailed design, design decisions, bill of materials, design standards, and test and implementation plans
•Provide cost and work package estimation to projects
•Review and support Business Case and/or Decision Summary development for projects requiring infrastructure change
•Provide end-to-end infrastructure design and integration of new technology
•Accountable for delivery of infrastructure change including engaging ITIL v3 Change and Release management processes
•Participate in provisioning of key resource when required as a technical lead in the delivery of infrastructure projects
•Ensure designs developed by external delivery teams adhere to the client's design principles, standards, and practices
•Perform and/or participate in Pilot and proof-of-concept testing
•Own and maintain as-builds drawings and design specification
•Create build, test and transition plans.


Design Consultation Service

•Participation in Product and System roadmaps, product standards, best practice definition, and lifecycle strategy
•Provide technical risk impact assessment
•Provide the setting of standard configuration and installation procedures
•Participation with product selection and provide supporting design decision documentation
•Consult on cost saving or infrastructure efficiency improvement initiatives that are driven from operations
•Participate in root cause analysis during the problem management and major incident processes
•Provide 3rd Tier consultation during resolution of key infrastructure problems and issues.


Capacity Management

•Define capacity performance metrics needed to monitor and sustain the infrastructure environment
•Lead quarterly and annual capacity management interviews with AMS and Business Partners.


Strategic Architecture

•In close collaboration with the Architecture and Planning team, participate in the development and maintenance of technical architecture domains, specifically the definition of technologies, products, and associated configuration, design practices, and procedures.


Requirements or Qualifications

Qualified Candidates will have:

•Proven ability of designing and implementing solutions that meet requirements, complies with organization architectural and cyber security standards, and cognizant of current and future state sustainability;
•Strong technical knowledge in several of the following areas: LAN, WAN, MAN technologies, Cisco Network, Nortel voice (conventional and VoIP), WLAN and corresponding support and monitoring systems
•Knowledge of networks running Microsoft and Sun products and servers
•Experience in organizations that support SCADA networks, pipeline operations, or similar businesses
•Ability to conduct research into system issues and products
•Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and non-technical language
•Good understanding of engineering principles
•Proven analytical, troubleshooting, and creative problem-solving abilities from individual and team perspectives
•Experience leading technical teams in design and development from a technical lead role
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•Highly self motivated and directed


Technologies required:

•Network, Telecommunications, System Management, Remote Access, Telecommunications, Voice and VoIP, Cyber Security, ITIL v3
•Cisco Interfaces (IOS, CatOS), Cisco Routing and Switching HW, Layer 2 and 3 – Routing Protocols, Load Balancing, DS3, T1, Frame Relay, Non-IP WAN Protocols (SCADA, X25, protocol converters), Network Services (DNS, DHCP, NTP), Wireless Radios and LAN


Education / Experience required:

•8+ years of progressive experience in design, implementation, operational support, integrity management, and supporting services in an enterprise environment
•Must have a Technical Diploma or an appropriate Degree in Engineering or a related discipline
