Our client has a requirement for a QA Manager for a 6 month contract opportunity.  The position is located in Toronto.

We are looking for a QA Manager who will also be required to perform testing along with their team.
Preference will be given to candidates willing to go from contract to full time but we will consider candidates who are also contract only.
The role will also require the manager to perform testing along with their team. The candidate will collaborate with business and technology leads, as well as operators and developers within the organization. There is no direct report but they will need to oversee and control the entire testing cycle , especially UAT, and manage the entire process. Team lead experience and managing business users in UAT is a must have.
Experience with Capital Market is definitely a plus or well rounded experience in Financial Services. Excellent communication skills is critical to this project.


Accountabilities
• Day-to-day responsibilities include management of a testing team responsible for performing regression and new functionality testing for all systems required to deliver a project.
• Candidate must be proficient in various QA/testing methodologies including test case/scenario development, script development, execution, and defect tracking. A good understanding of SDLC best practises is also required. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are essential.
• Formulate detailed testing strategy and detailed test plans, including estimating effort and duration, identifying test environments, number of cycles of testing, types and levels of testing that are required.
• Actively contribute to estimation and planning, risk assessment, contingency planning, tracking and management of progress, issues, risk, and resources.
• Estimate and obtain management support for the time, resources and budget required to perform the testing.
• Develop and execute detailed functional, performance, integration and regression test cases, and documentation.
• Ensure test process, methodologies, and tools are applied appropriately and that test phase entry/exit criteria are agreed to by stakeholders and applied by the test team.
• Provide effective and timely communication to the project delivery teams, operating and executive steering committees.
• Prioritize testing tasks based on goals and risks of projects and ensure testing milestones, activities and tasks are completed as scheduled.
• Ensure the timely delivery of different testing milestones.
• Develop test cases, scenarios, and scripts to ensure quality applications.
• Execute tests and ensures results achieve documented goals and objectives.
• Execute test scripts using test tools following the defined testing methodology.
• Coordinate with the Infrastructure teams that will be responsible for executing application load and stress testing.
• Work closely with development and systems teams to re-generate scenarios in the test environment, capture logs and provide root cause analysis.
• Lead the testing team in using test tools, defect tracking tools and other test support tools and identify and implement process improvements where applicable.
• Track and prepare the quality metrics report of testing activities like testing results, test case coverage, required resources, defects discovered and their status, performance baselines etc.
• Report the status of test planning, defects and execution activities, including regular status updates to the project team using quality metrics.
• Communicate and manage expectations of the senior management team and affected stakeholders during the planning and rollout of project releases.
• Ensure all sign offs on deliverables (overall test strategy, test plan, test cases, etc.) and that testing meets governance requirements.
• Prepares / updates the metrics dashboard at the end of a phase or at the completion of project.

• Application Testing - Ability to design, plan and execute application testing strategies and tactics to ensure software quality at all stages of application development.
• Managing Multiple Priorities - Ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities. Effective judgment in prioritizing and time allocation.
• Standards, procedures, policies – Understanding of and ability to use and administer the organization's policies, practices, standards, and procedures.
• Presentations - Ability to present information to groups with the appropriate degree of formality.
• Influencing - Ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.
• Quality Management - Knowledge of quality management methods, tools and techniques used to create and support an environment that meets the needs of the organization.
• Project Management - Knowledge of and experience with tools and techniques for planning, organizing, monitoring, and controlling projects.
• Application Delivery Process - Knowledge of major tasks, deliverables, formal methodologies, and disciplines for delivering new or enhanced applications.
• Accuracy/Attention to Detail - Ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.

Job Complexities/Challenges:
• Interpreting and conducting thorough analysis required to formulate testing strategy and detailed test plans, including: estimating effort and duration, identifying test environments, number of cycles of testing, types and levels of testing that are required.
• Assessing testing risk during planning and mitigating degree of risk going into production.
• Making recommendations on the state of the system and influencing the appropriate decision and problem solving during a test cycle.
• Coordinating ongoing communication and facilitating decision making with business partners and senior management to resolve testing challenges that are not always straight forward.
• Making judgments regarding the ongoing viability of testing and project plan based on ability to deliver upon agreed testing scope within approved budget and schedule.
• Demonstrates leadership by influencing others without reliance on position.
