Business Analyst

Job Description

Scope of Work/Description:

Working as a Business Analyst, you will serve as the primary internal resource for the development and maintenance of applicable Capital Projects systems and processes.  In addition, this person will work with other departments such as Supply Chain Management, Information Technology and Finance to ensure cross functional requirements are documented and managed.  Please note that there may be some travel to Cenovus sites within Alberta and when this internal project is completed, one of these individuals may be hired as a full-time employee or long term contractor within the Capital Projects area.

Some of the responsibilities that this BA will assume include the following:
  • Assess, review and evaluate Capital Projects’ processes and systems in place
  • Assist in providing the vision and scope for Capital Projects’ business and IT projects
  • Participate on and work with the Enterprise Resource Planning working committee
  • Initiate all IT projects related to Capital Projects
  • Ensure overall integration of Capital Projects’ IT applications – in conjunction with IT
  • Document business processes and system requirements
  • Work closely with teams such as HR to align organizational structure
  • Provide data stewardship and information architecture for Capital Projects’ systems
  • Coordinate user support for all Capital Projects’ applications.
  • Ensure training requirements related to Capital Projects’ systems, tools and processes are provided / coordinated
  • Solicit requests for and coordinate system enhancements
  • Maintain a current representation of business processes and systems within Capital Projects
  • Provide the media for communicating Capital Projects processes and procedures
  • Facilitate the adoption of records management and document control policies as it relates to Capital Projects
  • Work closely with Capital Projects functional groups to ensure their Capital Projects system requirements are understood and considered in the Capital Projects system roadmap
  • Liaise with IT and other groups (Supply Chain Management, Human Resources, etc.) as required



Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • 7+ years of increasingly responsible experience in Capital Projects with a strong emphasis on business processes and systems utilization
  • Proven functional experience with Primavera (P6 and PCM) and JDE is very beneficial
  • A post-graduate diploma/degree or equivalent training
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and computers in general
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint, Visio and Livelink would be of benefit
  • Experience in the areas of Quality Assurance and Risk Management
  • Some knowledge of Oil Sands Project Cost Control and Reporting processes and business practices would be beneficial
  • Some knowledge of oil and gas construction project management practices would be beneficial
  • Some exposure to or experience with UPK and/or Captivate (or equivalent) would be beneficial
