Role:
Our client requires an IT Business Analyst to work with IT and the Business to define and deliver high-quality technology solutions that meet business objectives.
The IT Business Analyst combines business and technology skills with communication, negotiation, facilitation, and presentation skills. The IT BA serves as a facilitator between Business and IT in truly understanding the business's needs and plays a key role in the definition, management and success of a project through the entire project lifecycle.
Using proven methods and tools, the IT Business Analyst contributes to the planning, eliciting, analyzing, validating and managing of user stories, functional requirements, business processes, test case design, and implementation planning support. The IT BA will work closely with Business Stakeholders of varying teams and levels, other Business Analysts, Project Managers, Solution and Integration Architects, Developers, Quality Assurance Analysts, other internal IT groups, Preferred Partners and Consultants, and External Application and Hardware Vendors.
The IT Business Analyst will primarily work on initiatives and projects that follow our customer's delivery process (including Agile), but may be asked to use other methods of project delivery, or called upon to lead or deliver other suitable IT work based on changing project demands.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Participate in Joint Application Modelling (JAM) sessions to refine an initiatives scope into a project initial requirements (user stories) and high-level design, producing appropriate documentation as needed.
  • Identify and categorize project stakeholders in the Business and IT
  • Bridge the gap between Business and IT, ensuring common understanding and IT/Business alignment of both functional (for business needs) and non-functional requirements (performance and quality attributes, scalability, interfaces, constraints)
  • Requirement Elicitation Story Management
  • Facilitate regular, iterative sessions with multiple stakeholders to elicit detailed requirements for stories using best practice methods and tools, such as workshops, user task analysis, focus groups, etc.
  • Create new user stories and associated deliverables detailed functional requirements, non-functional requirements, acceptance criteria for testing ; to meet Product Owner and IT Delivery needs
  • Convey requirements and design concepts with models such as use cases, prototypes, state diagrams, process maps, etc., as appropriate
  • Work continuously with the Product Owner and other BAs on the prioritization of the product backlog of user stories
  • Work with the Product Owner and BAs on refining and maintaining changes to the user stories in the backlog, within the technological solution framework and capability
  • Work with the Product Owner, BAs, Architects, and Developers on defining user stories sufficiently for estimation of effort
  • Work with the Product Owner, BAs, and Quality Assurance Analysts on defining acceptance criteria sufficiently for testing
  • Work with the Product Owner to confirm the delivered solution is in fulfillment of the stated requirements
  • Facilitate problem-solving discussions and general communications between the Business and IT and within IT itself
  • Agile Practice Team Role
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment by information sharing and team cooperation
  • Work in continuous delivery mode, analyzing and delivering features in defined intervals
  • Provide support to the Application Delivery Manager and Project Manager through approved Agile processes
  • Provide assistance on assignments and tasks where needed most
  • Consistently demonstrate Agile processes and principles for effective delivery
  • Consistently demonstrate Lean principles for efficient delivery
 
Requirement or Qualifications:
  • University degree in Commerce/Business Administration, Applied/Computer Science, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a Business Analyst role in a project-based environment, or 3 years of experience in an IT-facing business role or a business-facing IT role
  • Strong communication skills - written and oral
  • Knowledge and interest in industry best practices regarding requirements elicitation, definition, prioritization, and management
  • Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated presentation, facilitation, interview, and workshop skills
  • Demonstrated negotiation, advocacy, and conflict-management skills
  • Demonstrated learning ability and capability for self-development
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple responsibilities at the same time and under tight deadlines
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, overcome confusion, and simplify complex situations
  • Ability with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Business acumen in business domain is an asset
  • Experience in Agile Scrum Delivery is an asset
  • IIBA Certification is an asset
  • Understanding of Microsoft Project and Visio is an asset
  • Retail experience is an asset
