General Superintendent / Project Manager

Job Description

Our client is a world class leader in Renewable Energy and due to growth an exciting opportunity has come up for a General Superintendent to take the lead in the Construction of Wind Farms across Canada. The right candidate will have experience managing self performed work and will be able to work in remote locations, possibly working in construction camps.


Position Purpose

This position is responsible for providing overall leadership direction to multiple projects, or larger complex projects. Manages project safety and enhances customer relationships through providing excellent service. Responsible for coordinating, planning, and supervising Assistant Superintendents, Superintendents, contractors, and/or craft activities on large, complex projects.


Accountabilities

Leads People

•Manages multiple projects and/or large complex projects, possibly in a remote location
•Coordinates, plans, and supervises assistant superintendents, subcontractors and/or craft activities
•Leads the interview team for the hiring of craft personnel
•Provide proactive and intentional leadership in developing the safety culture on the project site
•Conducts performance reviews of general foremen, superintendents and appropriate team members as required
•Will build strong cross-cultural relationships and influence others internally and externally at all levels of the organization and resolve cross-cultural conflict in a culturally appropriate way
•Will foster strong teamwork orientation and will be a resource for valuing and promoting diversity
•Will be responsible for mentoring and managing team members, time management, and developing client relationships
•Responsible the productivity, safety and quality of Superintendent(s) I & II, Assistant Superintendent(s), Project Engineer(s), Field Engineer(s), up to 350 craft team members, and Subcontractors.

Drives Business Results

•Participates in pre-construction budgeting, scheduling and design
•Reviews and/or creates project schedules and the 3-week look ahead
•Selects formwork systems & equipment
•Implements and understands project administration requirements in conjunction with the Project Manager
•Analyze and resolve work problems, ability to determine work method alternative
•Partner with Project Manager during the construction phase to budget, manage, and forecast the following: craft labor, equipment, materials, small tools, consumables, & general conditions
•Implement and manage our client’s ZERO Injury Safety Program on the project
•Develops site utilization plan and establishes crew size
•Coordinate plans and specifications with design engineers, clarifying discrepancies
•Maintain liaison with other functions to ensure all required materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule

•Coaches, Mentors and trains field personnel foremen and assistant superintendents
•Develops leaders through active career sponsorship and providing the right responsibilities and work assignments to cultivate growth

Qualifications

Basic

•Must be open to change based on diverse input and feedback

Essential

•High school diploma
•Four year college degree in one of the following: Construction Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Engineering, or equivalent preferred
•Computer skills in Microsoft Office
•Must have 10 years supervision experience and/or 15 years construction experience
•Must be able to handle exposure to dirt, water, noise, and office environment
•Must be able to walk, stand, and sit
•Strong teamwork orientation
•Positive attitude and professional customer service skills
•Detail oriented
•Driver’s license is required
•Must be willing to travel
