Job Description:
Our client has a requirement for a SQL Server Database Administrator for a permanent opportunity.  The position is located in Toronto.

Role:
The Database Administrator will maintain appropriate database service levels within various department and environments in terms of availability and performance to support infrastructure deployment and application development. The incumbent will report to the Director of Operations and work closely with the IT team to maintain the integrity and security of our database and other technical systems.


Responsibilities:
  • Provide Operational support of all database environments and analytics running on various versions of MS Structured Query Language (SQL) Server (SQL  2005/2008/2008 R2/2012)
  • Evaluate and recommend database implementation options for deployment
  • Develop and implement database security features (e.g. roles, privileges, authentication, encryption)
  • Develop and implement database backup and recovery solutions for both file stores and databases
  • Configure and maintain database and software reporting suites (ie. SQL, Advantage, Foxpro, Excel, Crystal reports etc)
  • Create physical databases from logical designs and solve database issues encountered in software development
  • Follow operational policies and procedures that are compliant with PCI DSS standards including database security, roles and user role assignment
  • Perform data capacity planning, performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting and optimization of the databases
  • Develop and maintain documentation on data systems management and operational procedures.
  • Oversee and ensure the effective flow of data from customers to clients and internal Analytics team and to appropriate storage and online systems
  • Control database resources usage and perform capacity planning
  • Perform troubleshooting and diagnostics activities
  • Collect and analyze database performance information; identifying and implementing solutions for improvement
  • Evaluate and implement database technologies and utilities
  • Work in other areas of business technology or various operational tasks as required

Requirement or Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of SQL and specific experience with the following:
  • SQL Server installation, patching, and upgrades
  • Maintaining large databases and transactional replication of large amounts of data
  • Database backup/restore including copying databases from server to server
  • Good working knowledge of database security concepts
  • Familiarity with SQL Server Profiler, and Windows Performance Monitor SQL Server cluster support
  • SQL Server Reporting Services support and report deployment
  • SQL Server Integration Services package deployment
  • SQL Server Analysis Services support
  • Skilled at managing Windows based network environment utilizing virtualization technology (VMWare)
  • Strong ability with Crystal Reports and Excel macros including Scripting
  • Experience with Microsoft High Availability technology such as Database Mirroring and Replication (an asset)
  • Experience with additional database types an asset
  • An understanding of internet programming languages
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills in both technical and non-technical environments
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to effectively and quickly prioritize and execute tasks around changing priorities
  • Exceptional service focus including attention to producing quality results with a willingness to work towards the overall success of the project
  • Ability to multi-task with an attention to detail
  • Experience in or knowledge of telecommunications and/or call centre operations will be  considered an asset
  • Flexible availability to work shifts that may include day/evening/weekend as directed by business needs
  • Must be available for on call afterhours support when necessary

Required Professional Designation/Certification:
  • University Degree or Post-Secondary Diploma, preferably in Computer Science
  • Microsoft certification in SQL server an asset (MCDBA, MCITP, MCTS)

Required Experience:
  • 3+ years of database administrator experience
