Job Description:

Our client has a requirement for a SQL Server DBA/Data Warehousing for a 12 month contract opportunity. The position is located in Edmonton, Alberta.

Role:

Our client is seeking a full-time SQL Server DBA/Data Warehousing for 3 months, after the first 3 months this role will be on a part-time basis for the duration. They require the Senior DBA (Data Base Administrator) specifically for its enterprise Data Warehouse in an SQL Server environment. This person will initially be responsible for defining specific server requirements for the acquisition of a dedicated data warehousing SQL server, connecting to the existing Oracle environment. This will be followed by configuring the server with multiple virtual environments, and supporting the transition from existing Oracle ETL (extract, transform & load) scripts to the new SQL server. You will assist in the Strategic Analysis Office (SAO) and Information Services and Technology (IST) and work on expediting the data base and server related needs of the clients Institutional DW.

• Determine requirements for SQL Server for the clients DW
• Setup and configuration of the clients DW for production and test environments (multiple virtual server instances on one dedicated, physical server)
• Provide periodic support and maintenance of data bases and server configuration of the DW in a Microsoft SQL environment
• Ongoing server monitoring to identify and address performance degradation
• Review scripts and tools, making improvement recommendations for effective automation, monitoring and maintenance of services
• Automate SQL server management
• Establish efficient and effective backup / restore process to individual database object level
• Address divergent processing needs of data loading and complex query processing
• Security administration
• Troubleshoot DW-related issues and perform root cause analysis
• Knowledge sharing on SQL Server/T-SQL, SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS to in-house staff
• Ensure reliable data availability in the DW
• Implement database builds and upgrades
• Manage large data movement with partitions
• Optimize data movement into , out of and within the DW
• Assist in design and optimization of DW star schema tables, aggregate reporting tables and views
• Create stored procedures from scripts developed by others, ensuring accuracy, integrity, completeness and timeliness
• Champion developing, implementing and continuously updating best practices and standards, as they relate to DW ETL strategy and data quality management

 

Requirements:

• 5 years Data Warehousing experience in a Oracle environment
• 5 years SQL Server/T-SQL, SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS experience
• 5 years SQL Server experience
• 5 years ETL experience
• Experience implementing database builds and upgrades
• 5 years experience in production and test environments
• 5 years experience configuring DW for production and test environments
