Our client has a requirement for Business Systems Analyst for a 3 month contract opportunity.  The positions are located in Toronto

Role:
The Business Systems Analyst is responsible for:
  • Elicit requirements from wide spectrum of internal and external stakeholders (from C-level to operational staff), gather business and user requirements and these translate into specifications.
  • Analyze data requirements for performance management, KPI's, business intelligence
  • Provide requirements for building a scalable and flexible Performance Management, Reporting, KPI, Dashboards and Business Intelligence solution across the division.
  • Abstract the complexity of data and systems into a manageable model that describes the essence of each system and exposing important details that relate to Performance Management, Reporting (KPI) and Business Intelligence.
  • To perform an inventory of data sources, assess technology systems (e.g. billing, work management, customer service, scheduling, maintenance, monitoring systems, asset tracking and management, etc.), data quality and integrity; assess the usability of data.
  • Provide a data integration model of the various internal data sources (e.g. work management, customer service, scheduling, maintenance, billing, monitoring systems).
  • Work with the Business Analyst and project manager during the engagement to ensure quality internal and external client-oriented project documentation is produced to meet the project needs and municipal standards.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders (data custodians, system administrators, subject matter experts) to:
    • Determine performance management, KPI and reporting needs at all levels of management
    • Identify, locate and access potential sources of related data (operational, data repositories source and non- source systems)
    • Assist with multi dimensional data modeling and data repository integration
    • Create tailored integrated views of data from the various Divisions and / or Sections and / or Units as appropriate for the various stakeholders
    • Perform gap analysis where data and process maturity is not sufficient to support data mining, reporting and performance management
    • Investigate, identify and document commonality in applications, especially the data used and stored
    • Express data and application architecture as a conceptual drawing using appropriate reference models
    • Create data models in entity relationship diagrams and analytical models of data from various systems (e.g. billing, work management, customer service, scheduling, maintenance, monitoring systems, asset tracking and management, etc.)
    • Bring out requirements and describe the problem space in a clear and unambiguous matter, provide a understanding of how those requirements fit into a broader context of Performance Management, Reporting, KPI, Dashboards and Business Intelligence
    • Serve as liaison with business development, technical teams, product
      development and senior management
    • Work as a member of the team to help shape and drive the development of performance management and business intelligence initiatives including but not limited to data warehousing, reporting and analytical applications.
    • Document requirements for the full fledge implementation of performance management, KPI metrics and business intelligence solutions.
    • Define the business data domain and requirements and use data analysis, retrieval and evaluation tools to perform analysis of stored data in various operational systems
    • Provide insight into data use, storage and retrieval challenges within Toronto Water, as well as make recommendations on an approach to address the challenges
    • Support and participate in activities related to the collection, cleansing, reporting and governance of data.
    • Perform detailed stakeholder needs analysis and obtain stakeholder sign-off on key deliverables
Requirement or Qualifications:
  • University/Community College degree in Computer Science or equivalent a definite asset.
  • One or more of CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional), CCBA (Certification of Competency in Business Analysis).
  • Demonstrated Business Systems Analysis experience (minimum 5 years) in all stages of complex information management / business intelligence projects with emphasis on data discovery, acquisition, integrity, management, modeling in a large, diverse computing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience (minimum 5 years) in gathering and documenting business requirements, user requirements, reporting requirements, technical requirements, system analysis.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience performing detailed analysis of business processes and data to identify problems and potential solutions including performing Gap Analysis..
  • A sound knowledge of analysis & design techniques and system implementation methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Three (3) years experience with data warehousing, business Intelligence and Business Intelligence tools (Business Objects)
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with corporate clients, vendors, and team members: strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to help developers during system development, eg: provide use cases, flowcharts, conceptual and logical database design.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and presenting to all levels of management and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience as a self starter, able to effectively work independently and as a team member
Technical Capabilities:
  •  Solid understanding of System Development Life Cycle and other methodologies such as Rational Unified Process (RUP).
  • Good knowledge with Business Objects BI Package (3.0 and / or 4.0).
  • Experience in conceptual and logical data design, data warehousing
  • Thorough understanding of a Windows client server environment.
  • Good understanding of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) concepts and software applications used for data collection, storage and retrieval
  • Good understanding of various forms of multi-tiered software architectures including web-based applications.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of MS desktop productivity tools including Visio, and Citrix XenApp.
  • Good working knowledge of SQL
  • Familiarity with data modeling tools, Business Intelligence and data warehouse and ETL tools
