Systems Engineer - Bearers

PURPOSE OF POSTING
Be a part of the General Dynamics 100% on time delivery revolution, support our troops and play a lead role in developing the next generation communications capabilities for the Canadian Army.

General Dynamics Canada is currently accepting applications for a Working to Senior Level Engineer to join the Systems Solutions Group.  Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for developing the System Requirements, System Architecture, and System Design for Bearers within the future Land Command Support System for the Canadian Army.  In this role, your successful contributions to the Integrated Tactical Network (ITN) team and other key initiatives are a key factor in achieving 100% on time execution of the team’s activities and in ensuring ITN continues for the foreseeable future.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Be a Bearers Subject Matter Expert.
  • Provide technical and thought leadership as part of an Integrated Project Team.
  • Promote best practices and act as a role model for Systems Engineering across the company.
  • Collaborate with and influence customers to define and develop technical solutions.
  • Elicit, analyze, and develop platform requirements based on user and operational needs.
  • Develop a Bearers System Architecture and System Design.
  • Capture Architectural and Design artefacts using common modeling languages.
  • Perform Trade-Studies of different design options and recommend solutions. 
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Require 5-10 years of Systems Engineering experience.
  • Prefer experience in:Commercial wireless technologies such as WiFi IEEE 802.11 and WiMAX IEEE 802.16 standards,
    • Radio frequency including path profile analysis, co-site interference, and antenna assessments,
    • Satellite communications engineering including:
      • link budget,
      • modulation and coding,
      • gain assessments,
      • earth station operation, and
      • performance measurements;
  • Radio system design and engineering including modem and radio frequency design, and
  • Cellular technologies including CDMA2000, EDGE and Long Term Evolution (LTE);
  • Prefer familiarity with Canadian Land Forces Doctrine. 
  • Prefer demonstrated agile leadership leading to 100% on time delivery of objectives. 
  • Strong motivation, influencing and negotiating leadership skills. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information, both verbally and written. 
  • Candidates with 5-10 years in a Business Analyst role will also be considered. 
CERTIFICATIONS/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Require a University degree in Engineering (or equivalent) with (or eligible for) a Professional Engineering designation.

RESTRICTIONS/SCREENING
Applicants are required to obtain and hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information, and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position.  This requires a minimum 5 year consecutive residence in Canada and 10 years of clearable history.  Candidates must also be eligible for a Professional Engineer designation in Alberta.
