Junior Software Engineer - A&N

Air and Naval Systems– General Dynamics Canada (GDC) is the system integrator for the Maritime Helicopter Program, Canada’s new shipborne helicopter, the CH148 Cyclone. GDC’s role involves the selection, purchase, integration and installation of all the mission systems for the fleet of 28 aircrafts. These mission systems include Radar, Video, EMS, Acoustics, Self-Defence, Navigation, and Communication Systems.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The selected candidates will work closely with a team of highly skilled professionals in a collaborative environment. High team participation and cooperation is mandatory. The selected candidates will take day-to-day direction from the Software Development Lead or the Software Integration and Test Lead (or their designate), and work with senior and working engineers assigned to the project

Responsibilities:
  • Assisting and supporting lead engineers and team members      
  • Performing some basic design and/or analysis functions based on requirements
  • Documenting the analysis, design and test in accordance with development standards
  • Participate in integrated team activities with System Engineering, Development and System Integration.
  • Developing and performing tests and debug of code
  • Identifying defects, resolving issues and verification
  • Supporting and performing system level test and integration efforts
  • Participating in code reviews
  • Performing webpage (TWIKI) updates and maintenance
  • All other duties as required

Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science or related technical/scientific degree


Experience:
  • Able to apply problem solving skills to daily activities.
  • Experience developing system software
  • Programming in C/C++
  • Experience with software engineering processes and tools
  • Excellent  communication and time management skills
  • Strong problem solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Enthusiastic contributor,  willingness to learn new skills and takes on ownership of work
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment, with minimum supervision

Other:
Applicants will be required to obtain/hold a valid and current Canadian security clearance to gain access to the classified spaces, information and equipment in order to perform the work associated with this position which requires a minimum 5 year consecutive residence in Canada.
