Job Description:
Our client has a requirement for a Lead Field Coordinator – Substations for a perm opportunity.  The positions are located in Edmonton, Alberta.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:
The lead Field Coordinator for the Electric Project reports to the Field Construction Manager or Site Manager on project and functionally to the Chief Construction Engineer or Construction Manager. Responsible for supervising and providing day-to-day direction/technical guidance to Field Coordinators on project.  Manages the work load and shift rotation schedule of Field Coordinators to assure adequate oversight of all work execution.  Duties include the following activities:
  • Monitors the volume, quality, safety, procedural compliance and timeliness of the work and work product of assigned personnel.
  • Provide guidance and demonstrate commitment to client “Zero Accidents” Philosophy.
  • Observe and monitor, direct hire and contractor/subcontractor’s safety performance, Identify, evaluate, document and correct violations.
  • Supports and participates in safety meetings, assessments and root cause analysis for incident investigation.
  • Coordinates required safety training for assigned personnel.
  • Prepare scope of work documents and input to contract formation package and direct hire work execution packages.
  • Provides technical input regarding selection of bidders and supports the contract bid and evaluation process.
  • Provides material take off and forecast material needs to support the schedule.
  • Ensure availability and control of permanent materials and equipment.
  • Define temporary power and facilities needed to support construction execution.
  • Provides guidance on inspection/test plans, work method and identifies special circumstances requiring deviations from Standard operating Procedures.
  • Reviews, validates and critiques critical lift rigging plans prior to submittal for review and approval.
  • Coordinate with the design authority for resolution of required design changes or interpretation.
  • Captures and submits Lessons Learned.
  • Initiate requests for Change Orders, coordinate with the Contract Administrator, trends changes and makes recommendations to prevent or minimize re-occurrence.
  • Establish priorities and expectations of the contractor.
  • Track construction progress and provide input to regular schedule updates.
  • Manage contractor and/or direct hire quality compliance.
  • Expedite completion of project construction activities.
  • Review subcontractor daily reports for conflicts, commercial significance and trends.  May in some cases also prepare daily reports as required by procedure(s).
  • Identifies schedule restraints, potential impacts, alternate options and mitigating resolutions.
  • Ensures that contractors meet subcontract obligations/expectations and the direct hire forces meet prime contract obligation and expectations.
  • Review and approve completeness, content and quality of submitted deliverables.
  • Chairs weekly progress review meetings with contractor/subcontractors.
  • Determine if work is subject to back charges, define scope, prepare summary and submit to supervisor.
  • Prepare completion and turnover punch lists and track to completion.
  • Rate contractor performance and document performance in established tracking database.


Requirement or Qualifications:
  • All applicants must have the right to work in Canada and be able to obtain Canadian work visa as required.
  • All applicants must have a current and valid drivers’ license.
  • Bachelors Degree in Construction Management or an Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience in lieu of degree. Equivalent experience is considered a minimum of 6 years direct related experience.
  • Previous field office work experience providing exposure and in a construction management position furnishing cost schedule and construction execution assistance to construction / site management.
  • Minimum 6 years practical work experience in managing construction projects in a role of Foreman/General Foreman, Assistant Superintendent, Field Engineer, or similar role.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in a supervisory or management position
  • Good communication skills both written and oral are essential.
  • Basic to advanced computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 or more years experience in High Voltage transmission, distribution, and substation work.
  • Experience in electrical power installation for site development, commercial, industrial or utility facilities.
