Civil/Structural Coordinator - Transmission Construction

Field Coordinator – Civil 
Construction Engineer III

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

The Field Coordinator for the Electric Project reports to the Lead Field Coordinator or Field Construction Manager on project and functionally to the Chief Construction Engineer or Construction Manager.  Responsible for coordination and oversight of field executed work to assure all work is performed to safety and quality requirements.  Duties include the following activities:

1.       Review contractor’s technical submittals.
2.       Monitor contractor Quality Control Program and environmental compliance program, this includes site inspection for compliance with Contract Documents, permit and environmental requirements, approved submittals in conformance to codes and contract requirements.
3.       Monitor environmental and Right of Way (ROW) requirements and restrictions and coordinate with environmental specialist and property landowners to resolve problems or restraints. 
4.       Field management of substation construction, installation of tower foundations, towers, and transmission lines.  Review of rigging and lifts plans and heavy haul plans for compliance to approved requirements. 
5.       Track installed quantities and contractor man hours for verification of contractor invoices. 
6.       Maintain project safety awareness and enforce company safety policy and Zero accident Philosophy.
7.       Coordinate with customer and facility rep for outage and lockout-tagout to support tie-in and modification of existing substation facilities. 
8.       Coordinate with third parties for review of materials, approval and compliance with their standards.
9.       Facilitate coordination of contractors work with third parties and public agencies.
10.   Review and respond to contractors technical queries and coordinate with Engineering Department on technical issues.
11.   Supervise quantity take- offs.
12.   Review contractor’s monthly invoices.
13.   Review materials and equipment to assure proper storage and maintenance in accordance with manufacturers requirements prior to turnover acceptance.
14.   Verify as-builts have been completed and represent final installation configuration.
15.   Prepare daily reports on each contractor.
16.   Provide technical support to the preparation of Field Change Requests and Change Orders.
17.   Participate in construction progress meetings.
18.   Participate in final in house inspection, turnover package development and punch lists identification, tracking, and closure.
19.   Review engineering design packages for constructability issues and lessons learned.

Basic Requirements:
  • All applicants must have the right to work in Canada and be able to obtain Canadian work visa as required.
  • All applicants must have a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Bachelors Degree in Construction Management or an Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience in lieu of degree. Equivalent experience is considered a minimum of 6 years direct related experience.
  • Minimum 2-5 years practical work experience in a construction environment in a technical support position furnishing Para-technical assistance to construction management and/or line supervisors required.
  • General knowledge of industry codes to include NEC, NESC and OSHA.
  • Good communication skills both written and oral are essential.
  • Basic to advanced computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 or more years experience in High Voltage transmission, distribution, or substation work.
  • Experience in electrical power installation for site development, commercial, industrial or utility facilities.
