About the Job

Our client has a requirement for Senior Mechanical Designer for a perm opportunity.  The positions are located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Our client is a leading EPC company with a strong presence in North America with over 7000 employees, and currently expanding its Oil & Gas and Mining operations to w worldwide level.

RESPONSIBITLITIES:

• Strong personal commitment to Safety and Quality.
• Ability to work and communicate positively within a team based environment to ensure all deliverables are in conformance with engineering codes, standards, quality, schedule and budgetary restraints.
• Commitment to taking responsibility for job function and to look beyond their job function and task and understand how their work is used and influences others.
• Assist with the development and set-up of the CAD design environment specific to the project as well as work directly with all project participants to ensure the CAD environment is functioning as required by the project team.
• Develop the project specific CAD standards, including procedures for handling vendor data, drawing/model checking, model reviews, back-drafting, etc.)
• Prepare man-hour estimates for 3D modeling and 2D drawing extracting/generation.
• Develop the project drawing list and assign each drawing the appropriate Engineering Work Package (EWP), Area and installation contract or equipment purchase attributes.
• Record and maintain progress measurement of 2D drawings
• Update 3D model progress for all modeled equipment using standard reporting tools.
• Work with the lead Mechanical Engineers and other Project Leaders to develop and review corrective actions required to maintain the targeted design progress and quality standards.
• Execute designs following the mechanical and layout design criteria developed specifically for the project as well as the defined standards, codes, and regulations.
• Ensure the application of the design criterias throughout the evolution of the design.
• Work with the design coordinator to coordinate all activities that related to 3D model interference detections systems. Coordinate with other practices and disciplines as required.
• Assign specific tasks to and manage the designers accordingly to respect budget and durations.
• Plan and execute the update of all models/drawings with vendor information when it is received and ensure all changes are coordinated with the design coordinator and other practices.
• Lead internal quality assurance practices to ensure accuracy of drawing deliverables with vendor information and models.
• Coordinate the generation of 2D drawings from the 3D model as required by the project.
• Coordinate material quantity take-offs for estimating purposes or inclusion into bulk commodity purchase and installation contracts.
• Ensure that drawings produced by other designers are checked by experienced staff.

THE CANDIDATE:

• A minimum of 10 years design work experience in mining, minerals processing or heavy industrial.
• Experience with a suite of 3D CAD software products used in a data centric design environment, such as Bentley Microstation, SmartPlant 3D, Plant Space Design Series, Plant Design System, and AutoCAD.
• Strong ability to design in a 3D design environment, and a good understanding of design workflows.
• Strong technical design knowledge of the project’s main equipment and systems.
• Good communication and people skills.
• Be able to function independently with minimal supervision or as a member of a multidiscipline team.
• Current knowledge of industry or regulatory standards, regulations and codes pertinent to the design and systems related to the project.
• Ability to design according to written design criteria.
• Ability to manage scope, cost and timing associated with projects.
• Experience in mentoring junior designers and technologists.
