Our client has a requirement for Lead Layout - Mechanical for a permanent opportunity.  The positions are located in Toronto, Ontario.

Our client is a leading EPC company with a strong presence in North America with over 7000 employees, and currently expanding its Oil & Gas and Mining operations to a worldwide level.


RESPONSIBITLITIES:
The lead layout provides support to the lead mechanical engineer or the engineering manager and is responsible for all activities related to the physical arrangement of the equipment and commodities within the boundary of the project site. The layout of the facilities, equipment and commodities, are developed by the layout team until the design is advanced enough to allow the functional groups to begin their own designs.
The success of the role is directly related the individual’s ability to develop and define the scope of work, deliverables required, layout of the facilities with consideration to safety, constructability, maintainability and operation.


JOB DUTIES:
  • Participate in project kick-off meeting(s) and site visit(s) as required.
  • Develop the engineering work packages (EWP’s) for all activities specific to layout and general arrangement development.
  • Prepare man-hour budgets for all deliverables and time related activities related to the layout group.
  • Prepare the deliverables list for the work to be performed by the group (general arrangements, models, studies, etc.)
  • Prepare and issue for approval the project specific layout design criteria.
  • Define and develop the overall site plot plan based on the project and discipline requirements.
  • Coordinate directly with Client representative(s) in all matters related to layout.
  • Develop the facility layout(s) of all equipment/commodities to the point where each functional group can effectively begin their design.
  • Review, coordinate and approve all layout changes.
  • Define, in collaboration with the design coordinator, the model volumes to be used
  • Develop, produce and coordinate Area specific general arrangements and 3d models as required.
  • Ensure clash detection and resolution is applied at appropriate points during the design process.
  • Participate in project design, maintainability and constructability reviews.
  • Assign work (via signed-off EWP’s) to layout designers and continuously monitor progress and quality of general arrangements.
  • Manage personnel accordingly to respect the man-hour budget including approval of personnel timesheets on a weekly basis.
  • Review, check and approve all facility layouts and general arrangements to ensure conformity to the project specific layout design criteria.
  • Ensure 3D ERS reporting and 2D deliverable reporting is maintained on a regular basis. Monitor design progress and develop corrective actions if required.
  • Ensure relevant technical experts are involved in the design process as required. Facilitate the sharing of technical expertise across projects.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Essential
  • 10+ years plus experience, depending on project size.
  • Previous layout experience on the type of facility being executed.
  • Experience with working on a major project in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Good understanding of maintainability, constructability, safety and operating issues related to the equipment.
  • Good understanding of inter-discipline dependencies in a project environment.
  • Strong ability to analyze consequences of layout changes and prioritize best solutions as design progresses.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to manage individuals to attain quality, cost and schedule objectives.
  • Strong leadership and coordination skills.
  • Well developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Desirable
  • A high degree of understanding of construction methodologies.
  • A high degree of understanding of commissioning methodologies.
  • Extensive experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects.
  • Reasonable experience in the application of design systems for the discipline that support a 3D, datacentric design environment.
