Mainframe Technical Specialist (IMS, DB2, DBA)

Role 
We are looking for a  Mainframe Technical Specialist  (IMS  and DB2 DBA) for a permanent fulltime role in Winnipeg.

 Responsibilities
  • Provides 2nd Level 7 x 24 on-call Mainframe Database Support on a rotating basis
  • Provides day to day database administration of the IMS and DB2 subsystem databases (including database backup and recovery services, reorgs, space management, security grants, etc.)
  • Manages and monitors ongoing IMS and/or DB2 database performance and capacity to ensure service level expectations are maintained
  • Manage access to system level DBMS resources based on GLI Security procedures and policies
  • Identifies resource utilization trends and recommends options for addressing capacity issues in order to meet business requirements and service level agreements
  • Manages lifecycle for Mainframe Database software tools (excluding major product upgrades or product replacements)
  • Maintains operational documentation for IMS and DB2 infrastructure
  • Provides technical expertise for project and upgrade implementations
  • Provides basic database training to the Operations group and Service Desk
  • Identifies process improvements and opportunities within mainframe scope and other services within Shared Enterprise Services (SES)
  • Provides mainframe database disaster recovery services  
  • Works with Service Delivery and Change Management to ensure non disruptive implementation of mainframe database infrastructure.

Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum 4 years in a large-scale Information Services operation or a technical support organization
  • Education: Education/skills acquired through completion of a post-secondary degree or equivalent (e.g. Degree or diploma in a related discipline like Computer Science or an equivalent combination of training and experience)
  • Strong knowledge and experience with IMS and DB2 databases subsystems
  • Strong knowledge of database administration tools and functions (e.g. database utility programs, database space management, DB2 rebinds, queries, scans, reorgs, security grants, IMS Gens, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and knowledge of software diagnosis techniques
  • Knowledge of database design / logic
  • Knowledge of mainframe hardware, software and tools
  • Knowledge of  I.S. processes and procedures including change management and incident management
  • Knowledge of database back-up and recovery tools (Image Copies, Loads/Unloads, Recovery, DBRC)
  • Knowledge of programming languages (one or more of - PL/I, Cobol, Assembler, REXX, CLIST)
  • Ability to use office productivity tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and have strong team work skills

Nice-To-Have Skills
Knowledge of:
  • System management tools e.g. SMP/E
  • Source to Load tool (ChangeMan, ISPW)
  • Infrastructure tools (e.g. compilers/link editor/binder)
  • System utilities (e.g.; IEBCOPY,SYNCSORT)

Java/Shell Scripting/Stored Procedures are used for back end processing. Actuate and Crystal is used for Enterprise reporting solutions.

Job Description/Accountabilities include:
·         Perform system analysis, design, programming, testing, and walkthroughs following SDLC methodology and adhering to bank technology standards
·         Produce test plans/scripts and perform test execution using available/appropriate tools
·         Utilize the system development life cycle (SDLC) and project management methodology (PMLC) to create, review and complete required project documentation
·         Contribute to team success by meeting key project milestones and overall project deliverables on time and within budget, while adhering to development and quality standards
·         Participate in knowledge transfer within the team and with our technology partners


Specific Educational Requirements / Accreditations:
·         BS degree in Computer Service or equivalent work experience


Other Qualifications / Skills / Experience:
·         Nice to have 10+ years experience in Database/SQL skills in one or more popular database technologies preferably DB2, SQL Server, Oracle.
·         must have at least 10+ years experience in ETL technology with Dataware house specific skill set. Database Design and modelling skills
·         5-10 years experience Java technologies in proven workplace development skills is an asset
Advanced knowledge in Shell and PERL scripting in Unix/AIX environment
·         Report development experience in Actuate Reporting Suite (ver 8 or higher) and/or Crystal Reporting Suite (Ver 10 or higher) is considered as an asset.
·         Strong analytical, problem-solving, collaborative skills
·         Solid experience in analyzing query performance issues and modifying data structures or application code to remedy performance problems
·         Added plus to have knowledge in IBM dataware house tool set with DB2, Cubing Service.
·         Proficiency in XML technologies with experience in XQuery again XML based databases will be considered as an asset.
·         Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and with changing priorities
·         Experience with electronic systems trading systems a plus
·         Willing to provide production support
·         Team lead experience

Responsibilities

  • Automate deployment and configuration of J2EE applications
  • Provide infrastructure and environment support to shared services development and testing teams
  • Work closely with LOB PMs and technical leads in support of TDCT initiatives

Requirements or Qualifications
Qualified Candidates will have:
  • Strong technical skills - working knowledge of supported technology such as - J2EE, IHS Web Server, WebSphere Application Server, MQ, SSL, XML, SOA, Unix Shell etc.
  • Strong experience with WAS7 console, JMS queues, Database pools, custom JVM settings, JNDI names, good understanding of WAS cells, clusters, Node concepts, and connection factories
  • Highly developed critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work in a fast paced environment and manage multiple assignments with competing priorities.
  • Experience in deploying applications in a development environment
  • Some knowledge of Database technologies (DB2, Oracle or MS SQL Server)
  • Strong client orientation
  • Java certification preferred
  • Experience in application frameworks
  • Familiarity with the Web and Application Servers, Workflow infrastructure.

About the Job

Our client has a requirement for a WebSphere Middleware SME for an eighteen (18) month contract opportunity. The position is located in Mississauga.


Role

The ideal candidate will work at a senior level to provide UNIX and Windows test environments and support for e-business applications. Additionally the will be gathering and analyzing project requirements for the creation and support of distributed test environments on AIX and Windows platforms and work closely with project managers, user communities and other partners to ensure the successful implementation of products/changes into the production environment. In addition, the candidate will provide consultation and analysis to identify process improvements that will reduce test time and cost as well as improve quality, accuracy and efficiency.


Responsibilities

•Gathering and analyzing project requirements
•Identifying, estimating and tracking deliverables required for a project
•Preparation of and deploying WebSphere and Windows Applications
•Code management in the 'locked down' environment for system testing
•Trouble shooting problems (such as environment, hardware, WebSphere, performance, etc)
•Creating and maintaining documentation in support infrastructure
•Maintaining and analyzing development server performance
•Coordinating and scheduling environment upgrades
•Building and managing working relationships with external vendors
•Team Technical lead on medium to large scale projects
•System capacity planning and maintenance is a key aspect of this role.
•Proactive maintenance.


Requirements or Qualifications

Qualified Candidates must have:

•Excellent UNIX (AIX preferred) experience
•Excellent Windows Server 2000 and 2003 admin experience
•Experience with WebSphere 5, 6 and 7
•Excellent analytical skills
•Excellent communication skills
•High degree of multitasking
•Thorough understanding of PMLC and SDLC processes


Nice to have:

•HPUX experience a definite asset
•IIS experience would be an asset
•Working knowledge of SQL, Oracle or DB2
•Apache/Tomcat experience
•Project management and negotiation experience would be an asset.
•System Capacity Management experience.
•Exposure to SOA based apps would be an asset.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Analytics & Sales Reporting database and maintain data management practices, frameworks and paradigms to support ongoing reporting and analysis functions for the client.
• Understand business needs and work with analytics team to develop and meet business requirements.
• Ensure data integrity, designing and implementing clear, well-documented business rules for data segmentation.
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with distribution channels and Wealth Management group.
• Aggregate data received from business partners and other business units and integrating with client’s sales data to facilitate co-operative reporting and in-depth analysis.
• Setting of standards for both the physical and logical database schema and table design, as well as the programming.
• Manage technical processes, including business segmentation criteria, implement changes associated with new products, programming/procedures and report design.
• Contribute to and facilitate on-going business reporting including streamlining, review and re-development of reporting processes.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of the Analytics team by keeping current on industry trends and data management/business intelligence best practices.

Requirements or Qualifications

Qualified Candidates will have:

•Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects on time
•Strong relational database expertise (SQL Server 2000 /2005/ 2008, OLAP, Oracle, DB2, etc.).
•Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Business Intelligence solutions.
•Working knowledge of database scripts and familiarity with web development (ASP, ASP.NET, and Sharepoint)
•Experience with mutual fund unitholder recordkeeping systems (CGI / Unitrax) and Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) is an asset.
•Knowledge of various business software applications, including the Microsoft Office suite.
•Familiarity with data extraction/mining tools such as SAS.
•Demonstrated experience in process analysis and process flow documentation.
•Demonstrated leadership in a business analysis or business support role.
•Post Secondary degree: Computer Science, Statistics/Applied Mathematics or similar degree preferred.
•Minimum of 3-5 years of financial institution experience
•Minimum 3-5 years experience in information management.

Our client has a requirement for an Senior Mainframe Developer for a 6 month contract opportunity. The position is located in Mississauga, Ontario.


Requirements or Qualifications

Responsible for detailed technical design, development and maintenance of applications on mainframe platforms Design and code program; create test transactions and run tests. Conduct analysis of needs and goals for the development and implementation of applications systems. Review, analyze and modify programming systems including encoding, testing, debugging and installation. Establish disaster recovery plan. Maintains online and batch applications.

A vacancy exists for a senior developer to join the team in the delivery and development of this project and to eventually contribute to future enhancement, support and maintenance post-delivery. Prime responsibility will be to develop detailed design specifications, create and review code and assess impact on other applications. Role will work closely with other team members to ensure consistency in coding standards and approaches and to optimize any synergy and re-use opportunities.

•Responsible for leading technical aspects of project from inception through to deployment. Participate in analysis and system design specification sessions. Documentation of design options and solutions according to System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology. Ensure that solutions adhere to development best practices and architectural principles.
•Apply analytical skills to resolve problems and deliver viable solutions. Anticipate obstacles and execute proactive approaches to issues. Active participation in issue resolution.
•Provide detailed development estimates to Project Manager for development effort as well as weekly status reporting and budget forecasting.
•Configuration management for the sub projects within the release.
•Responsible for coding, testing, packaging, deployment and support of builds as code is promoted from development, system, acceptance and production environments. May lead code reviews.
•Work closely with System Test Environment Management Team (STEMT) to ensure that environments are fully functional and that builds are properly deployed.
•Participate in development of test strategy, test plans, test cases and testing efforts (unit testing and integration testing of code).
•Provide technical support to business and testing team during testing phases. Track defects, defect triage and resolution.
•Data set up and environment shake down.
•Coaching / mentoring of junior developers.
•Knowledge transfer within group.
•Ensure required documentation is housed in the project repository and that knowledge transfer has occurred to full time staff upon completion of contract term.


SKILLS: Must have strong skills and working experience in mainframe MVS, COBOL, JCL Utilities, databases such as DB 2 or IMS

Our client has a requirement for a Senior Applications Developer – ETL for a six month contract opportunity. The position is located in Toronto.


Role

The successful candidate will become a member of the Business Intelligence development team with a focus on ETL development. This individual will be responsible for developing ETL processes and tools for data extraction and loading, transformation and cleansing implementing business rules.

The BI Solutions delivery team is responsible for enterprise business solutions providing BI solutions to our technology clients and business partners. . Data warehouse solutions are implemented on DB2 v9 with the Ab Initio ETL tool and Cognos 8.4 Suite, Java/Shell Scripting/Stored Procedures used for back end processing and Actuate and Crystal is used for Enterprise reporting solutions.


Responsibilities

•Perform system analysis, design, programming, testing, and walkthroughs following appropriate SDLC methodology and adhering to the organization’s technology standards
•Produce test plans/scripts and perform test execution using available/appropriate tools
•Utilize the system development life cycle (SDLC) and project management methodology (PMLC) to create, review and complete required project documentation
•Contribute to team success by meeting key project milestones and overall project deliverables on time and within budget, while adhering to development and quality standards
•Participate in knowledge transfer within the team and with our technology partners


Requirements or Qualifications

Qualified Candidates will have:

•10+ years experience in Database/SQL skills in one or more popular database technologies preferably DB2, SQL Server, and Oracle.
•Minimum of 10+ years experience in ETL technology with Data warehouse specific skill set.
•5-10 years experience Java technologies in proven workplace development skills
•Advanced knowledge in Shell and PERL scripting in UNIX/AIX environment
•Report development experience in Actuate Reporting Suite (ver. 8 or higher) and/or Crystal Reporting Suite (ver. 10 or higher)
•Demonstrated Database Design and modeling skills
•Solid experience in analyzing query performance issues and modifying data structures or application code to remedy performance problems
•Knowledge in IBM data warehouse tool set with DB2, Cubing Service.
•Proficiency in XML technologies with experience in XQuery again XML based databases
•Strong analytical, problem-solving, collaborative skills
•Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and with changing priorities
•Willingness to provide production support
