Job Description

Our client has a requirement for 2 - 3 Systems Integration - Programmers for a 6 month contract opportunity. The positions are located in Toronto.

We are looking for two to three candidates to hire based on the following order of experience: familiar with working in Unix environments is a must, Unix shell scripting, Perl and database. Candidates must have good communication skills, good troubleshooting skills, multi-tasking skills, quick learner, and have an understanding of batching environments and parallel computing.

The candidates will batch Unix scripting and use look-up/queries using SQL databases and also monitor the system to ensure batches are completed on a daily basis.

The candidate will be working within a group that is responsible for the development and support of in-house Market and Credit Risk systems.


This individual will be responsible for:

•Designing, developing, testing, debugging, and maintaining scripts and processes to help automate tasks and integrate diverse systems, using full software development life cycle processes.
•Wrapping, packaging, deployment and support of builds as code is promoted through development, user acceptance testing, and production environments.
•Participating in the implementation and maintenance of source control and release procedures
•Providing support to business and testing teams


Requirements or Qualifications

Qualified Candidates will have:

•Expertise with Unix shell (BASH, SH, KSH shell)
•Expertise with Perl
•Understands parallel computing and distributed platforms (Sun Grid Engine preferred).
•Experience working with Oracle, Sybase and/or mySQL databases. (Please note the Oracle/Sybase/SQL requirements is more of a "one of these is good", rather than that they would need all 3)
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Be organized, self-motivating, and a team player and able to multi-task.
•Proven problem solving capabilities.
•Understand business requirements as they relate to operational processes.
•Familiarity with version control tools (CVS).
•Familiarity with HTML and XML.
•Experience with large scale architectural design and the ability to implement within such an environment.
•Knowledge of the Market and Credit Risk businesses (nice to have but not a must).

Senior UNIX Systems Administrator

Job Description

Our client has a requirement for a Senior UNIX Systems Administrator for a six month contract opportunity. The position is located in downtown Toronto.


Role:

Currently we are looking for a hungry and highly enthusiastic and hungry Senior UNIX Systems Administrator for our prime downtown location- this is a 6 month contract with possibility of extension. The incumbent is responsible for monitoring and resolving incidents related to infrastructure systems and applications Initiate corrective actions to resolve system and infrastructure application errors. Log and document production problems, identify recurring problems and recommend preventative measures. Answer calls from application support groups or systems engineers, identify problems, resolve or escalate as required. Interact with systems programmers, server, database and network support staff to maintain responsive and available infrastructure for the application.

This is project related work, and the incumbent will be responsible for design/configuring and implementing of hardware and O/S design for wholesale applications. Ideally we are looking for strong O/S fundamental background with good 2-3 years of clustering experience from an enterprise level environment.

This group is dynamic, passionate and has very little attrition-we are looking for a strong team player with a "can-do" attitude.


Requirement or Qualifications:

Qualified Candidates will have:

•Comprehensive knowledge of UNIX systems management, servers, AIX/Linux (exposure to multiple UNIX base operating systems an asset)
•Minimum of 6 years, hands-on experience in design and build of Linux (SuSE Linux Enterprise Server) systems.
•Demonstrated experience with UNIX systems and support and diagnostic tools such as Openview or VERITAS
•Must be familiar with Unix Shell Scripting
•Hands on experience with common hardware server platforms for UNIX (x86/AMD based servers from IBM/HP, SUN hardware).
•Strong understanding and hands-on experience with High Availability
•Superior Troubleshooting skills, able to recommend out-of-the box solutions
•Must have a strong understanding and proven background with capacity planning and performance tuning
•Must have a strong familiarity with- knowledge of common mass storage platforms like SAN, NAS, and Disk Arrays etc.
•Manage security across the environment and be able to integrate standard security products like ESM, eTrust etc on the servers.
•In-depth VERITAS Volume Manager experience (Preferred)
•Project design and implementation experience rather than just support

Applications Programmer III

JOB Description:

We are looking for 3 strong PERL Developers/applications programmers. Interviews will take place as soon as qualified candidates have been shortlisted.

This contract is for six months and the successful candidates are required to work both independently and as a member of a team, interacting effectively with business personnel to adapt and integrate new technologies and processes.

The ideal candidates will have a strong background in analysis, design and software development . Responsibilities will evolve to include work on other applications within the group, as well as providing team leader with weekly status reports on assigned tasks, and performing any other software maintenance duties as needed.


Primary Responsibilities:

- Technical Analysis and Development:
- Develop complex systems for Credit Risk / Market Risk Management
- On-time completion of deliverables measured on quality, quantity and consistency.
- Participate actively and pro-actively in the identification, design and implementation of timely and robust solutions to risk-management-related issues.
- Development and implementation of the day-to-day market or credit risk process.
- Design, develop, integrate, test and implement fixes to production problems or enhancements to existing applications.
- Write/update user and operations manuals.
- Provide time estimates and resource requirements.


Key Competencies Required:

- Analytical / Technical Skills / Experience:
- Intermediate/Advanced Level PERL with 5+ years of experience
- Nice to have experience with multi-tier client server architecture
- Familiar with UNIX/Solaris/Linux environment

Develops code (writes software application programs). Develops and codes programs to integrate multiple subsystems. Identifies and recommends system enhancements to improve or expand customer services by anticipating customer problems and recommending solutions. Plans, schedules, and coordinates project design and implementation teams. Assists and trains others on technical or industry-related issues. Evaluates hardware or software product alternatives and makes recommendations.
A vacancy exists for a senior developer to join the team in the delivery and development of this project and to eventually contribute to future enhancement, support and maintenance post-delivery. Prime responsibility will be to develop detailed design specifications, create and review code and assess impact on other applications. Role will work closely with other team members to ensure consistency in coding standards and approaches and to optimize any synergy and re-use opportunities.


Key accountabilities are:

• Responsible for leading technical aspects of project from inception through to deployment. Participate in analysis and system design specification sessions. Documentation of design options and solutions according to System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology. Ensure that solutions adhere to development best practices and architectural principles.
• Apply analytical skills to resolve problems and deliver viable solutions. Anticipate obstacles and execute proactive approaches to issues. Active participation in issue resolution.
• Provide detailed development estimates to Project Manager for development effort as well as weekly status reporting and budget forecasting.
• Configuration management for the sub projects within the release.
• Responsible for coding, testing, packaging, deployment and support of builds as code is promoted from development, system, acceptance and production environments. May lead code reviews.
• Work closely with System Test Environment Management Team (STEMT) to ensure that environments are fully functional and that builds are properly deployed.
• Participate in development of test strategy, test plans, test cases and testing efforts (unit testing and integration testing of code).
• Provide technical support to business and testing team during testing phases. Track defects, defect triage and resolution.
• Data set up and environment shake down.
• Coaching / mentoring of junior developers.
• Knowledge transfer within group.
• Ensure required documentation is housed in the project repository and that knowledge transfer has occurred to full time staff upon completion of contract term. SKILLS: Industry equivalent experience may require specific industry or platform experience
