Geological Database / System Manager

Job Description:
Our client has requirements for Geological Database / System Managers on a perm basis.  The positions are located in Toronto, but extensive travel is required.
People Focus

Purpose of Role

  • To provide leadership in development and implementation of standard practices in the capture, maintenance and integrity of all forms of exploration data providing a foundation to ensure that the client meets its strategic and tactical objectives.
  • To develop and maintain quality assurance / quality control protocols and systems for all exploration data to ensure that the foundations of resource models meet or exceed the standards necessary for accurate modeling and appraisal.
  • To implement efficient procedures to measure and characterize analytical and resource model risk.
  • To train and supervise data management personnel to ensure quality standards throughout the company.
  • To identify and recommend new GIS and modeling technology to enhance and maximize the use of all exploration data.
  • To train exploration geologists and database administrators in the management, visualization and presentation of exploration data.
  • To develop, disseminate and maintain tools and systems that enhance the utility of exploration data for all users.

Key Areas of Responsibility and Duties

To develop and implement long term strategies for the capture, maintenance, integrity and secure storage of geological and related technical data
  • Lead the development and standardization of systems for data capture and maintenance to ensure consistency and integrity of all forms of exploration data using the company’s preferred software platforms.
  • Develop, customize and implement quality control / quality assurance (QA/QC) protocols for data management in exploration throughout the corporation.
  • Prepares and supervises the preparation of reports as required on the geologic data, models, parameters and technical risks related to exploration inputs to resource and reserve models, engineering studies and regulatory reports
  • Compiles information regarding site-specific needs and concerns to develop suggestions for addressing technical issues
  • Performs technical audits, summarizes information and communicates to key leaders
  • Establishes parameters to develop geological block models with all relevant data
  • Works closely with Technical Services and operating departments in the capture and analysis of geological data
  • Involved with multi-disciplinary teams evaluating and assessing risks and opportunities on new investments, due diligence appraisals and audits
  • Evaluates geological data and makes assessments on the validity of conclusions based on results
  • Ensures that the corporation’s data and models are compliant and consistent with regulatory guidance in the US, Canada and elsewhere

To develop and implement standard practices and protocols within the Exploration group to ensure information serves the strategy and objectives of the Company
  • Oversees the implementation of processes, policies, systems and practices within the Exploration Department that maximize efficiencies and competitive advantage.
  • Act as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives, models organization values and sets the cultural tone and prioritizes business goals.
  • Drives research procedures, development mechanisms and continuous improvement concepts into tangible projects and systems for the benefit of the corporation.
  • Collects, summarizes and reports on all geologic data conforming to the standards set by NI 43.101 and the CIMM in compiling resource models, reports and feasibility study analysis.

To lead and manage a team responsible for executing exploration data systems
  • Identifies strategies and key performance goals and acts as an advisor to direct reports; works to overcome barriers and challenges and minimize risk.
  • Builds the capability of the team to enhance Exploration’s ability to achieve technical and financial objectives and operating strategy, hires appropriately, leverages the talents of the function and also takes corrective actions where necessary.
  • Ensures there is a team in place to manage the function, once the program has been established.
To maintain leading edge technical capability within the Exploration Department
  • Evaluation of new software/tools/methods for capturing and visualizing exploration data, with recommendations on acquisition and implementation.
  • Responsible for training of management and exploration personnel in use of new tools/programs to maximize
  • Stays current in fields of interest – databases and database management systems, GIS, general IT, web-based services.

Scope of Responsibility and Complexity
  • Work is performed within broad authority, receiving little direction.
  • Problem resolution requires a substantial degree of resourcefulness to originate new methods of analysis and / or methods of operation.
  • Work is highly specialized in its complexity and involves a high degree of independent judgment to develop policies, processes, and systems in situations where considerable variation in interpretation is possible.
  • Ensures established results are achieved for the function involving a group of leaders or professionals.
  • Work is reviewed for attainment of objectives and co-ordination / alignment with the work of other functions / units within the organization.
  • Provides general direction to staff with major emphasis on the planning, development and implementation of programs and operations for a function.
  • Makes decisions and recommendations in the absence of formal guidelines or precedents.

Minimum Qualifications and Skill Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Geology, Earth Sciences or a related field
  • Additional specialized education or experience of up to 4 years in the specialized field of data quality control and geologic modelling.
  • Formal professional designation in appropriate area of expertise
  • More than 12 years of related work experience in an operational and project environment. Additional range of technical and operating experience within the mining industry is an asset.
  • Experience leading teams within the mining industry
  • Proficiency with exploration and mine planning software systems (Vulcan, Datamine, Medsystem, Whittle 4D, etc.) is desirable and knowledge of SQL.
  • Ability to travel (approximately 50%) – domestic, as well as international

Additional Qualifications and Skill Requirements
  • Good interpersonal skills required
  • Working knowledge of a second language, preferably Spanish, Portuguese, or Russian is desirable but not mandatory
  • Well-developed technical report writing and presentation skills. Very strong communications skills. Team player with a strong inclination towards developing co-operative solutions
  • Ability to ‘cut to the chase’, quickly identifying key technical and business issues. Must be self-directed and work well in a highly unstructured environment

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leading a team of 4 - operational and strategic planning, including planning projects and negotiating the allocation of resources

Requirement or Qualifications:

Qualified Candidates will have:
  • Must  have strong systems admin background – LAN WAN -  ideally was a Systems  Admin  in a past
  • University degree in Computer Science, Business or Engineering
  • MCSE, ITIL or PMP certifications will be considered an asset
  • 3 – 5 years of management or supervisory experience in IT coupled with strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable  rolling up  your sleeved and  working  alongside your team as well as being able to  present  to the  President
  • Exceptionally customer service orientated and highly self-motivated
  • Strong understanding of project management principles
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and multi-task paying close attention to detail

Job Description
Our client a major financial institution located in Edmonton, Alberta is looking for an Manager-IT Outsourcing for a 12 month contract to provide relationship management pertaining to current and future outsourcing arrangements, coordination of contract development and renewal, and issue management as appropriate.


Duties:
•Manage the development of new sourcing agreements utilizing industry best practices and processes.
•Provide governance over and maintain existing sourcing agreements utilizing industry best practices and processes.
•Support negotiation strategies and participate in the negotiation of sourcing agreements.
•Participate in benchmarking engagements measuring the qualitative and quantitative aspects of sourcer performance.
•Perform repository management of all documentation relative to the internal group processes and sourcing agreements.
•Produce sourcing agreement related reporting to be used both internally and externally for relationship management purposes.
•Identify and implement process improvement opportunities
•Educate and communicate knowledge expertise to internal sourcing agreement clients
•Support issue and escalation management for sourcing agreements.
•Support and participate in regular joint executive sourcing reviews.


Must have skills:
•Experience in managing outsourcing relationships: proven track record relating to successful development, negotiation, and management of large vendor relationships and contracts
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Strong working knowledge of contracts and agreements.
•Highly developed facilitation and negotiation skills, including an ability to foster strong relationships with external parties.
•Strong proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Project.
•Post-secondary accreditation in a related field.

Manager, Human Resources (1 year contract)

Zylog Systems (Canada) Ltd. is currently seeking a Manager, Human Resources for a one year contract for a maternity leave replacement.  The Manager, Human Resources is responsible to manage the overall provision of Human Resources services for Zylog Systems (Canada) Ltd. and Zylog Systems (Ottawa) Ltd.  The Manager, Human Resources provides functional HR support to all levels of the organization and provides guidance and counsel to management in all Human Resources related issues including recruitment and selection, interpretation and administration of HR polices programs and application legislation, performance management, training and development, health and safety, benefits and compensation.  The Manager, Human Resources ensures delivery of Human Resources services promotes fair and equitable treatment of employees, complies with government legislations, and focuses on business objectives.  


Specific Responsibilities & Primary Duties:
  • Consult Managers and Employees on HR policy and employee relation issues and concerns (eg. attendance, employee discipline, poor performance, employee development)
  • Manage high-risk employee relation's matters to completion to minimize risk to the organization. This includes harassment, human rights, escalated employee relations issues, disciplinary action and termination. 
  • Manage Group Benefits program.
  • Liaise directly with Group Benefits Insurance carrier to manage employee claims for Short Term disability and Long term disability and assist in the re-integrating employees following disability.
  • Analyze and modify compensation and benefits policies to establish competitive programs and ensure compliance with legal requirements
  • Develop and implement compensation strategies and structures that align with company goals.
  • Partner with management and staffing team on recruitment and selection which includes defining Standards of Performance – Job Description, screening resumes, conducting behaviour-based interview, reference checks, work visa application, offer letters, and new employee orientation. 
  • Plans, develops, implements and administers HR policies and procedures that ensure consistent treatment of employees and are consistent with government legislations.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate HR programs and initiatives to meet business needs.
  • Consult manager and employee on health and safety programs and practices
  • Manage all WSIB claims including accident reporting and Early Return to Work program
  • Develop, implement and maintain health and safety programs to ensure compliance with legal requirement.
  • HR training that focuses on enhancing management/employees knowledge such as Employment Standard Act, Management and Employee responsibilities under Occupational Health and Safety At, and Harassment.
  • Develops and implements training and development initiatives to address current capabilities and future training needs, including on-the-job operational training, department special training, management development, new hire orientation and on boarding.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • College Diploma or University Degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration
  • CHRP designation
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Human Resources in a generalist role
  • Minimum 2 years of Management experience
  • Knowledge of current employment legislation (e.g. Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act,  and Pay and Employment Equity Legislation)
  • Knowledge of the staffing industry business and hiring cycle.
  • Ceridian Insync Blue and Crystal Report writer experience is required
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Outlook
  • Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Must have experience dealing with client, contractors, and senior management.
  • Ability to deliver excellent customer service at all levels of the organization and with external partners.
  • Possess strong organizational, time management and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Strong relationship-building ability, proactive, results-oriented, and resourceful.
  • Strong problem solving and leadership skills.
  • A demonstrated ability to recommend and implement process improvements
