Our client has a requirement for a Senior Database Administrator for Permanent, Full time opportunity. The position is located in Waterloo, ON

Role

The incumbent would be an experienced MS-SQL DBA who would primarily be supporting the MS-SQL database environment. The incumbent will become part of the Technical Services team and assist in maximizing the availability, security, and performance of the company’s databases. Key tasks will involve the maintenance and monitoring of the MS SQL and DB/2 database environments; database architecture and design; database security; tuning and optimization. The position will work closely with Application Development teams to deliver corporate solutions/products and services.

 

Responsibilities

• Database management, maintenance and design: monitors capacity and status of all components involved in system performance
• Assists and consults on day-to-day operations, management and integrity of the Windows server platform environment
• Provides first level incident support, providing DB expertise to ensure system incidents are resolved in a timely manner
• Responsible for providing proactive problem management using key indicators of system health to prevent DB incidents
• Active participation (and/or lead) in building and implementing IT solutions
• Acts on behalf of Technical Services team as a DB subject matter expert for business and technical projects
• May initiate and develop initial project concepts and ideas, including planning, business case requirements, and budgeting
• Contribute to creation and/or adherence to standard IT policies and procedures, including Change & Release Management, Incident & Problem Management, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning.
• Keep abreast of technology changes and innovations in the marketplace
• Provides superior client experience and strengthens relationship with the business and with external vendors/partners

 

Qualifications

• Post-secondary technical or business diploma and/or equivalent working experience
• Minimum 8 years’ experience in Information Technology; with 5+ years in a Senior Database Administrator role
• Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) 2000/2005/2008/2012; MCSE/MCSA 2000/2003/2008/2012 and ITIL Foundations is a strong asset
• Microsoft SQL Server advanced administration and operations, design and architecture/ IBM DB/2 operations, maintenance, design and architecture
• Database performance monitoring, performance tuning, schema design, code review, stored procedure design
• Development languages: C, C++, C#, VB, XML, Javascript
• Incident/Problem/Change Management, Configuration/Asset Management, Service Level Management
• Teamwork and cooperation, customer insight, change leadership, ability to resolve conflict, strategic influencing
• This position may require overtime, on-call support and flexibility in work schedules

Requirement or Qualifications:

1. As the Senior Database Administrator must demonstrate that they have performed the role of a Database Administrator  in the last fifteen (15) years;
2. Three (3) years of experience on projects defining database structures for Oracle;
3. Three (3) years of experience on projects executing bulk extract and load routines within an Oracle environment;
4. Three (3) years of experience on projects executing backup and restore functions within an Oracle environment;
5. Experience for the initial sizing of staging databases;
6. Experience  executing  data conversion routines;
7. Experience with the development  and coordination of back-up, disaster recovery and virus protection procedures; and
8. Must have valid Security clearance.
