One of our financial services client is looking for a Oracle DBA to join the team for a 6 month contract in Toronto Ontario. Senior Development Oracle DBA (Oracle 9i/10g/11g Supports Development & QA Testing Environments; Understands SDLC from DBA Perspective)
 
Qualification
-4+ years of DBA experience
-Financial experience would be an asset, but is not required
KNOWLEDGE:
•Leads in design, development, testing, and implementation of enhancements to existing databases and/or creation of new databases in order to provide an optimum design that satisfies the business requirements • Performs various database administration functions (including installation of database software, license management, creation/modification of database servers, account set-up, maintenance, access, and permissions) in order to support project demands • Creates/maintains database and operational documentation according to accepted Client and unit standards in order to capture current knowledge (e.g., new business data definitions, Design decisions, and Production procedures) • Leads project team members in Data Modeling in order to properly document the business data requirements • Leads/participates in project and team meetings, interacting and collaborating with team members and other departments, as appropriate, in order to capture project requirements • Provides technical support and mentoring to database team members in order to foster professional development • Researches opportunities for implementing new Database Management System (DBMS) technology within the Enterprise in order to improve application development efficiency and database performance and availability • Develops/improves database standards in order to provide optimum maintenance and consistency across applications • Performs database and application tuning and capacity planning in order to verify that the business requirements are met within the Service Level Agreement (SLA)

• Possesses good analytical skills for complex problem solving.
• Exhibits good communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Is detail oriented with good organizational skills.

Requirement or Qualifications:
  • A  minimum of two (2) Government of Canada projects utilizing Oracle Reports and Oracle Reports within the past five (5) years. 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of professional work experience developing PL/SQL stored procedures for interfacing with MS.NET. Resource provided professional work experience developing PL/SQL stored procedures for interfacing with MS.NET.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional work experience utilizing Oracle 9+ RDBMS.
  • A  minimum of five (5) years professional work experience utilizing ERwin data modelling tool to update and maintain data models. Provide examples of projects for which the proposed resource provided professional work experience utilizing ERwin data modelling tool to update and maintain data models.
  • A  minimum of five (5) years of professional work experience with Oracle Reports.         
  • Three  (3) years of professional work experience developing user interface components utilizing Infragistics Net Advantage  work experience developing user interface components utilizing Infragistics Net Advantage.
  • Professional work experience utilizing Python software Provide examples of projects for which the proposed resource provided professional work experience utilizing Python software

Oracle Database Administrator

Zylog Systems (Canada) Ltd. is currently seeking an Oracle Database Administrator (DBA).  Key responsibilities include:

DB Administration Activities:
1. Monitor and maintain the DB server and instances for all environments (Production, QA/REF, DEV, and Disaster Recovery).
2.Monitor and maintain the routine business cron jobs setup on the DB instances of various types, adjust them according to their usage.
3. Routinely refreshing non-production DB instances with Production DB data.


DB Programming Activities:
1. Provide Production Support, i.e., solve bugs reported about DB operations, extract data/reports according to business/customer requests, integrate with external customers through FTP/SCP file transfer to process batch job posting and other business processes using DB cron jobs calling stored procedures.  Most requests come in the form of issue tracking tickets opened by the Technical Support Team, Account Manager and Business Analyst.
2. Participate in the Design and Development of enhancement/customization requests.  Work with the BA and Developers to understand the new features. Work out the required DB changes including table changes, trigger changes, stored procedure/function changes, DB cron job changes, and create/maintain reports in the MS reporting server, loading translated content into DB.
3. Provide support for external customers running the Talentflow system, through their VPN connection.

DBA tasks can be performed relatively independently (Working closely with the IT Infrastructure Team).  However, the DB programming level tasks require working closely with the BA, Account Manager, Technical Support and lead Developer(s) to provide support/solutions both to the business and to the development team, on a daily basis. 

The opportunity will often present itself for the DBA to interact directly with the Customer to obtain specific requirements related to the database.  The DBA will work with a BA (Business Analyst) and PM (Project Manager) at the time of Business Requirements Gathering.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Certified as an Oracle DBA
  • Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 6 years of DBA working experience building, deploying and administering distributed Oracle database management systems
  • Sound knowledge of database auditing, audit logging, creating benchmark for audit points
  • Experience with database security and database encryption
  • Sound knowledge of users access and database privileges
  • Experience with deploying database security patches and remediation of database vulnerabilities.
  • Experience with installation, configuration and maintenance for 9i/10g/11g RAC and 10g/11g ASM
  • Experience with the building, configuring, monitoring, and implementation of Oracle DataGuard technology.
  • Good Database Programming experience in SQL and PLSQL
  • Programming experience in building and parsing the XML files
  • Experience in Data Migration tools and methodologies
  • Expertise in managing Oracle databases in Linux/Solaris Environments
  • Experience with UNIX shell scripting
  • Strong RMAN backup/recovery experience on very large databases
  • Strong skills in writing stored procedures/functions
  • Hands-on experience with Oracle performance analysis using Statspack, SQL tracing, etc.
  • Expert experience in troubleshooting and resolving urgent/critical incidents on production systems
  • Experience with performing back-up and recovery for both application tablespaces and catalogue table spaces
  • Comfortable with working in a rapidly changing, technically complex environment
  • Proficiency with MS office product suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
  • Excellent communication (both written and oral)
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Organized, such as the ability to plan project and deliver development work
  • Goal-oriented/self motivated
  • A proven team player
  • The ability to participate in knowledge transfer of information with peers and all levels of management

About the Job
Our client has a requirement for an Oracle DBA for a 6 month contract opportunity.  The position is located in Toronto.


Job Description:
As an experienced Senior Database Administrator you will be assigned to a large Business Intelligence (BI) Program that is currently underway at our client.  You will be responsible for the design, deployment, technical support, security administration and ongoing maintenance of our client’s development and production, Oracle DBMS environments – which support this Program. The BI program is leveraging Netezza appliance technology.   Ideally you will have experience with Data warehousing concepts; working with staging, landing areas, and Datamarts. You will support the design, installation, testing, and implementation of the various Datamarts for several projects within the BI program.  You will be called upon on a regular basis to participate in the planning process (providing technical assessments, recommending possible solutions, providing effort estimates) for DBA duties.


Responsibilities:
Provide expert Oracle as well as Netezza technical support, database design and consulting services to the overall “Business Intelligence” Provide on-call project database support for our client’s Oracle and Netezza test and production database environments for the projects that are implemented within this BI Program Monitor, maintain, administer and tune our client’s production databases that are related to this Program Ensure proper backup and recoverability of our client’s production Oracle and Netezza DBMS environments and databases. Design, Build/configure, implement test and production Oracle and Netezza database instances as required.  Maintain backup / recovery strategies to ensure recoverability of production Oracle and Netezza databases in the event of failure, Provide on-call project database support on a rotating basis for the BI Program.  Install, configure, patch Oracle and Netezza DBMS software as required, regularly monitor and tune our client’s production BI Oracle and Netezza databases to ensure their optimal performance.  Contribute to database protection ensuring appropriate access, Research and report Oracle software bugs to Oracle; Netezza bugs to Netezza.



 Qualified Candidates will have:
-  3-5 years working as an Oracle DBA with the following in a UNIX environment:
-  Oracle 11gR2
-  Understanding of Data warehousing concepts including staging, landing areas, Datamarts
-  UNIX shell scripting experience
-  Solid understanding of data modeling and database design
-  Experience designing and implementing backup and recovery strategies; performance monitoring and tuning
-  Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-  Excellent organizational skills; particularly the ability to manage time well and juggle multiple project activities and priorities


Nice to Have:
-  RMAN, Grid Control, Performance monitoring concepts, Partitioning concepts
-  Netezza (Twinfin v. 6)


Experience with one or more of the following:
-   Assyst change management software; ESP Job Scheduling package; IBM's IMS High Performance Utility Tools
