Job Description

Our client has a requirement for an Infrastructure Specialist for a 3 month contract opportunity.  The position is located in Winnipeg, MB.

Role

Our trusted Financial Services client is looking to obtain a contracted resource for 3-6 months to assist them with a high demand for expertise in their Network Engineering area.  The individual would need to be highly skilled in the area of Cisco Network routing.  The resource would be used to interface with other IS resources in reviewing and assisting with the design and implementation of changes on Cisco enterprise switching technology and CheckPoint Firewall technologies.  The candidate must have a good command of the English language and have experience creating detailed network designs based on high level designs provided by Architects.  The following is a list of the qualifications required for the role: 

Requirements

Infrastructure Specialists have responsibilities at both the project and global technology levels. They may participate in technology research or implementation projects, as well as application development projects. At the project level, Infrastructure Specialists work closely with the Enterprise Infrastructure Services (EIS) sponsor and project team staff to ensure effective technology solutions are being designed and implemented. Infrastructure Specialists participate in direction setting within the technology centre, which contributes to the Global Technology Services standards.

• Provide technical expertise to projects and support teams with emphasis on constructing solutions through integration of infrastructure and applications including 3^rd party products
• Support the development of implementation strategies and plans including identification of technical work packages, dependencies, estimates and schedules
• Detailed infrastructure design and development of technical specifications for target environment(s)
• Support procurement activities including requests for acquisition
• Build and configure Network technology solutions as dictated by the non-functional requirements
• Support target environments during build, testing, and implementation phases
• Document operational and recovery procedures
• Transition solutions to production
• Contribute to training strategies and business implementation planning
• Provide technology leadership to business partners and IS staff

Qualifications

Proponents should have some or all of the following groups of knowledge:

• Degree/diploma in technology related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 5 years’ experience implementing or supporting technology infrastructure in enterprise wide organization
• Ability to design technology implementations
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Solid communications and interpersonal skills
• Proven ability to write effective documentation that is clear and meaningful to the target audience
• A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Effective internal consulting skills with a strong customer service orientation
• Attention to detail and effective planning and organizational skills
• Technical specialization in the following areas:

Requirement and Qualifications 

Reporting to the Manager, Infrastructure Engineering Design the Technical Infrastructure Design Analyst is responsible to provide thought leadership for the infrastructure at our clients especially UNIX (Linux, AIX), Storage and Backup, Middleware and Data Communications.  In addition, the Infrastructure Design Analyst is responsible to ensure that projects receive best solution design, implementation, deployment and transition to production.

Essential duties and Responsibilities

Work with other IT engineering teams to:

• Develop the best infrastructure design
• Recommend the infrastructure for the solution
• Install and configure the infrastructure for the solution
• Determine and pilot a deployment strategy and plan for the solution
• Define production operations and co-ordinate handover to Infrastructure Build
• Prepare and maintain thorough documentation of technologies, standards and procedures.
• Provide guidance and control to ensure that solutions are operable at the appropriate level and to optimize timing for new solutions designs and changes.
• Ensure that the infrastructure in use aligns to the business strategy and direction.
• Improve the management of the infrastructure environment.
• Evaluate complex hardware and software systems, preparing detailed proposals including recommendations
• Provide Level 3 support to internal and external resources to resolve technical and business problems as they relate to the Infrastructure.

Contact and Purpose

• Development Project Managers on a daily basis to discuss the progress of assigned project deliverables.
• Development Team Leaders on a daily basis to plan the use of appropriate technologies for the delivery of applications and to provide review of the proposed application architecture.
• VP’s and Directors of business units to apprise them of progress on critical issues. This will be only a few times a year.
• Other contact outside IT is not frequent and will be on the demand of development Project Managers for specific technical perspective concerning application design or business process optimization.

Experience and Requirements

• University Degree in Engineering or Computer Science
• 4 or more years experience with UNIX (AIX, Linux) administration, installation and configuration
• 4 or more years experience with Linux (SUSE an asset)
• 2 or more years experience with Storage and Backup architectures (SAN, NAS)
• Experience with Websphere, Message Broker, MQ, WebLogic an asset
• Experience with retail or branch deployment architectures is an asset
• 3+ years of experience with large complex infrastructure systems
• Analytic, diagnostic and problem solving skills
• Able to work with minimum supervision, taking ownership for the successful completion of work assignments
• Detail oriented
• Self motivated with a strong desire to improve personal skills and knowledge
• Strong verbal and written skills
• VMWare expertise nice to have
