Our client has a requirement for Data Modeller for a Contract and Fulltime opportunity.  The position is located in Toronto, ON.

Requirement or Qualifications:

• Excellent knowledge and proven experience in Enterprise level Conceptual, Logical and Physical data model design and implementation
• Business knowledge in financial industry, preferred in Private Wealth Management business, experience with Broadridge Dataphile would be a huge plus.
• 5+ years’ experience as a Data Architect/Analyst/Modeler with involvement in Operational Data Store and/or Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence project
• Significant experience with analyzing large volumes of data using a structure methodology 
• Proven experience completing deliverables such as data models, data flow diagrams, data value maps with minimal supervision
• Able to socialize, educate and roll-out the program
• Strong analytical and communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively and confidently with business users, management and project team members
• Ability to conduct user interviews and perform detailed data analysis to identify appropriate data sources, key facts, and dimensions that support the business requirements. 
• Ability to present information, analysis, ideas, and positions in a clear and convincing manner to both technical and nontechnical audiences
• Experience working with a range of DBMS and data integration tools (Oracle, MS SQL Server, ETL tools etc.). 
• Strong hands-on ERWIN or ER/Studio experience
• Expert level PL/SQL skills, experience with IBM DataStage is a plus
• Undergraduate degree with a major in Computer Science, Business or Engineering

About the Job

Our client has a requirement for a Data Architect for a 3 month contract opportunity.  The position is located in Toronto.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Information Architecture, the Enterprise Data Modeler is responsible for providing data architecture and modeling services to project and application maintenance teams throughout the IT organization. Working on multiple projects, the Data Architect will facilitate the collection of information requirements, as well as the development and management of conceptual, logical and physical data models to support the data and information needs of the business community. The Data Architect will champion sound data architecture and modeling standards and practices within our client’s technical environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide a leadership role in the development and communication of Data Management strategies, principles, standards and best practices. Develop and maintain both operational and business intelligence conceptual, logical and physical data models.
• Work with DBA's to ensure optimum data performance, Support the DBA's and Solution Architects to provide the best solutions to meet current project needs that are aligned with strategic direction.  Manage and maintain the data model library and data inventory.
• Partner with Business Analysts to gather business, data and reporting requirements and translate the business needs into logical data structures.
• Review and approve the data designs
• Maintain a level of expertise for the strategic modeling tools, CA Erwin and Modelmart
• Experience with Meta Data Management, data stewardship, data quality, IT governance, CEO/CFO Certification, Enterprise Data Models, and Enterprise Frameworks.
• Control data model changes through active involvement throughout the project lifecycle, as well as reviewing and approving data designs.
• Act as an important contributor to the development and maintenance of IT strategies and plans.
• Represent the client regarding its achievements in technology deployment, operations and future directions at various industry forums.

 Qualified Candidates will have: 

• 10+ years IT experience in large scale technology architecture,
• 10+ operations and design related disciplines
• 4+ years in a Data Modeler or Data Architect role
• 3rd Normal Form and Dimensional modeling expertise
• Team player with excellent communication skills
• Facilitation and workshop coordination experience
• Business information requirement analysis experience
• Adept at balancing the immediate needs of a project with the future vision of the enterprise to achieve a win-win situation
• Experience in Retail, Petroleum, Automotive and /or Financial Service Industries
• DB2, Oracle and SQL Server experience an asset
• CA Erwin experience would be an asset
• Solid understanding of Project Management and SDLC methodologies
• Advanced business analysis, architecture and design skills
• Ability to communicate highly technical and complex security concepts effectively across all levels of the organization (both IT and business)

Job Description:

• Perform business analysis/modeling, prepare business requirement and technical documentation, i.e. Business Requirement Document, Functional Specification, Test plan/test cases etc., based on UML/RUP methodologies
• Participate in various stages of projects, including project planning, resource estimation, project execution and control, and reporting progress to project managers and stakeholders
• Prepare formal project documents such as Project Charters, Statements of Work and Service Level Agreements and be able to identify and prepare business cases and recommend changes to current business practices to improve information delivery of legacy data
• Provide historical data conversion and retrieval, data modeling and database design
• Work with technical teams, such as the Application Development Platform, System Products, Desktop and the Help Desk support groups
• Communicate effectively and prepare and deliver presentations to multidisciplinary clients
• Identify and prepare business cases and recommend changes to current business practices to improve information delivery of legacy data
• Prepare data models, entity relationship diagrams and data dictionaries 

Qualified Candidates will have:

•  University degree in computer science or related discipline, and considerable experience
• working on large scale information technology projects or the approved equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Extensive experience in organizing, facilitating and coordinating requirements gathering sessions and / or JAD sessions with stakeholder client groups.
• Extensive experience in documenting, verifying and translating requirements into detailed design specifications to produce software components and interfaces to meet end-user requirements.   
• Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs.
• Project management experience in all stages of complex information management projects with emphasis on financial management, estimating resources and critical path identification in a large, diverse computing environment.
• Experience in current and emerging information management concepts/technologies including information management, component based design, object oriented techniques, business/data modeling methodologies, meta data repository management, relational database management technology, business intelligence and decision support for a multi-tiered, multi-platform, network centric computing environment.
• Experience using some of the following or equivalent tools and methodologies is required. Examples include The Project Management Institute’s (PMI’s) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), Rational Rose, MS Visio, MS Project,  UML, Erwin, HP Quality Centre, HP Performance Centre, Oracle Warehouse Builder, IBM WebSphere, Java, J2EE, EJB, HTML, XML, PowerBuilder, Crystal Reports, Visual Basic
• Considerable experience in historical data conversion and retrieval, data modeling and database design.
• Knowledge of emerging architectures, technologies or products such as mobile (smart phone) app development, data warehousing, e-service, quality assurance tools, data retention and document management

Technical Skills: 

• Experience in creating and maintaining a project-business glossary.
• Experience in creating and maintaining Requirements Traceability Matrix.
• Experience in documenting and defining Actor Summary 
• 5+ years experience in documenting and modeling with Unified Modeling Language (UML) including but not limited to 1) Use Case Models, 2) Activity / Flow Charts, 3) Sequence Diagrams, 4) Class and Collaboration Diagrams.
• 5+ years experience in documenting Use Case Specifications System
• 5 + years experience in documenting (Screen) Mock-Ups and Storyboards used to to present / confirm key concepts to business areas.
• 5+ years experience designing system screens and specifications defining specific field attributes, constraints and system events.
• 5+ years experience designing Report specifications
• Experience in conducting Candidate Noun/Entity Challenge Analysis
• 5+ years experience in developing data models of various levels including (Conceptual, Logical, and Physical)
• 5+ years experience using various CASE and Data Modeling tools (eg, Erwin, Microsoft Visio Professional or other)
• Work with business area and QA to develop load test scenarios/scripts. (Defining both expected concurrent users, and potential data volume – eg. expected number of records in database and fetched in result).
• Experience in defining and documenting a User Acceptance checklist, and working with end users to sign-off on project deliverables. 
• 5+ years experience in conducting system demonstrations of storyboards, screen mock ups, prototypes, iterative system releases and/or proof of concepts.
• Previous experience as a software developer on large and complex projects is an asset.
