Our client has a requirement for Webservices Developer for a 1 year Contract opportunity. The position is located in London/Toronto.

Role:
We require an experienced WebServices Developer to work on a number of initiatives. The successful candidate will be responsible the design and development of web services supporting a wide variety of business functionality and integration with multiple enterprise systems.
  • Hands-on multi-tier, design and development utilizing Java EE, Web Services and back-end SOA integration
  • Ensure proper architectural principals, coding standards, code builds and continuous integration process are followed
  • Ensure defect free programming by testing and debugging using available/appropriate tools and participate in reviewing peer coding
  • Carry out requirements reviews, design reviews and code reviews.
  • Work with the business/product, QA, architecture, vendor, and other technology partners to successfully deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Packaging, deployment and support of builds as code is promoted from Development, System, Acceptance & Production environments
  • Work closely with infrastructure teams to ensure that development and integration environments are fully functional and that builds are properly deployed
  • Contribute to testing strategies including automated functional and load testing user interfaces
  • Identify and communicate technical issues and risks to the project manager and work with developers and vendors to resolve.
  • Ensure that standards and best practices are documented and that the documentation is kept up to date.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to technology delivery processes (development, unit testing, and deployments).
  • Provide estimates of effort for design, development, unit testing of application changes.
 

Must Haves:
Minimum 3 years experience developing online applications involving:
  • Java Technologies: J2SE, J2EE, JSP, Servlets, JDBC, AJAX
  • Web services
  • Hands on experience developing and delivering solutions for medium to large size projects with multiple backend integration points through web services and host connectivity
  • Working with a distributed team with both onshore and offshore developers
  • Strong knowledge of object oriented analysis and design, implementation and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of RDMS and using ORM frameworks
  • Experience with build processes, continuous integration and source control systems (MKS or GIT an asset)
  • Working in a rapidly changing, technically complex environment.
  • Thorough understanding of SDLC processes.
 
Nice to Haves:
  • Java frameworks: Struts, Tiles, IBATIS, SPRING
  • REST, JAX-RS, XML-RPC, JSON-RPC, SOAP), IBM MQ, JDBC, Spring/Hibernate
  • A University or College degree in Computer Science or equivalent field

Role:
As part of the team, you will design and deliver solutions for a variety of projects requiring web services development supporting a wide variety of business functionality and integration with multiple enterprise systems. You will have experience in developing solutions and proven experience leading others.
 
Responsibilities:
The Solution Designer will lead the design and development of quality web services that follow best
  • Practices and technology and architecture standards.
  • Prime contact with technical experts, project teams, business and outside vendors, providing leadership, guidance and direction
  • Work independently and often autonomously as the senior or lead developer and coach/guide team members within area of expertise
  • Overall accountability for the delivery of the solution design and deliverables.
  • In conjunction with architects and managers provide effort estimates for new projects and initiatives
  • Consult on development of the System Requirements Specification (SRS). Work closely with Business Analyst to translate business requirements into timely and robust technical solutions
  • Lead the creation of a comprehensive end-to-end solution and coordinate with Solution Architects and other Solution Designers as required driving the creation of the System Design Specification [SDS].
  • Work with developers to ensure that the detailed technical design is fully understood and the development initiatives are in line with the intended design and standards
  • Ensure team members adhere to guidelines/procedures on highly complex or large scale projects complying with the system development life cycle (SDLC) and project management methodology (PMLC).
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure quality, standards compliance, reusability and ease of maintenance
  • Deliver effective and efficient solutions by meeting key project milestones and ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget, and adhere to the corporate quality and security standards
  • Communicate project status and provide timely escalation of issues to ensure project objectives are met
  • Provide technical support for escalated incidents/outages to ensure that they are resolved efficiently with minimal impact to stakeholders
  • Work on a broad range of tasks and multiple, concurrent projects. Prioritize and manage own workload in order to deliver quality results and meet timelines
  • Participate in knowledge transfer within the team and business units
 
Requirement:
  • 3+ years proven Lead experience
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in Java, and minimum 4 years in Java/J2EE/DB web application development
  • with excellent knowledge of the following:
  • Java Technologies: J2SE, J2EE, JSP, Servlets, JDBC, AJAX
  • Web services
  • Development tools: Eclipse, Ant/Maven, Apache, Tomcat
  • Development and platforms: Windows, Unix/Linux, Websphere
  • RDBMS: MS SQL, Oracle
  • Solid understanding of Web Services security concepts such as SAML, WS-Federation, WS-Security,
  • OpenID, OAuth
  • Very good understanding of client server architecture and SOA
  • Expert understanding of performance issues, and real-world experience designing systems to handle a massive scale
  • REST, JAX-RS, XML-RPC, JSON-RPC, SOAP, IBM MQ, JDBC, Spring/Hibernate
  • HTML, Javascript, XML, CSS, JQuery, SSO, LDAP
  • Java frameworks: Struts, Tiles, IBATIS, SPRING
  • Experience with JUnit/DBUnit and Continuous Integration
  • Knowledge of MKS or GIT code management tool an asset
