Role
The Estimator is responsible for preparing estimates, budgets while working with the project management team in preparing schedules. He or she will also participate in the development and marketing of our client’s services.
 
Responsibilities
  • Attend bid walks, gather and reviewing client plans, and specifications in order to prepare quotes
  • Prepare construction budgets by studying plans, scope of work, identifying and projecting costs for each project
  • Solicit, receive and review quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Keep up-to-date with market trends, suppliers and industry changes to maintain a competitive advantage
  • Prepare tenders for submission
  • Resolve cost discrepancies by comparing and analyzing historical data
  • Prepare project cost reports
  • Liaise with the project management team to review budgets, scope of work, irregularities, and determine adjustments for future projects
  • Negotiate purchase orders and subcontracts following the award of bids
 
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience providing estimates in the wireless (cellular) telecommunications industry
  • 3 years of experience in vendor or client management
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel throughout the province when necessary
 
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of construction specifications, practices , costs and estimating techniques
  • Strong negotiations skills
  • Strong mathematical and computer skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to read plans and specifications
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Attention to detail with the ability to recognize and resolve discrepancies
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet objectives

Our client has a requirement for Estimator, Process Planning for a permanent opportunity.  The positions are located in Aurora, Ontario.

Our Client, a Tier One supplier to the major automobile manufacturers, is a leader in the design and manufacture of metal stamping; modular welded assemblies; structural welded assemblies; mechanical assemblies and heat shields for thermal applications.  Located in Aurora, our client is looking for an Estimator, Process Planning.


Requirement or Qualifications:
This role is to assist in the facilitation and development of efficient manufacturing processes as a part of the quotation process. 


Responsible for:
  • Determines the most cost effective method of producing a variety of assemblies using minimal material, equipment and labour
  • Documents manufacturing processes
  • Calculates and/or estimates equipment and tooling costs for potential new business
  • Create visual aids to supplement written information for technical reviews
  • Recommends changes to product designs to provide a more robust manufacturing process
  • Consults with APQP teams to ensure feedback is captured once tooling is kicked off and designs are started
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) studies and consult with designers on future products and engineering changes
  • Contributes to a safe, clean and comfortable work environment that complements the Occupational Health and Safety Act by ensuring the principles of the 5S discipline (simplify, separate, sanitize, standardize and support) are supported and adhered to.
  • Ensure full compliance with the laws of Ontario and/or any other province
  • Safety Responsibilities: Work safely by following safe work practices, Company safety rules, and complying with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations (Particularly Section 28 of OHSA)


Must have skills:
  • Minimum 7 years experience in the automotive industry with exposure to building equipment, programmable logic control, electrical, robotics, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Quality Planning processes
  • Sound understanding of Geometric Dimensioning  and Tolerencing, TS 16949 and ISO 14001 requirements
  • Computer skills: Excel, CAD experience 3D
  • Ability to understand and work with 3D Cad Data and drawings
  • University Degree or College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent job related experience
  • Ability to determine the best process for producing a part
  • Firm understanding  of the costs  involved in building various types of automation and tooling
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Effective problem-solving and decision- making skills
  • Ability to handle multi tasks and changing priorities
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and exercises sound Judgment
